Initially appearing as a minor, unassuming character, Alice is actually the killer. Rejected at birth and raised in a Catholic school attached to a convent, where a childhood history of violence was covered up. Alice was ultimately taken in by the Gazard family and became the wife of Reverend William Gideon.
Alice was in love with her best friend, Jessica Clissold, and they planned to run away together. However Alice chickened out and didn’t want to lose Jessica. They argued and Alice fatally struck Jessica with a bike lock.
Years later, as people threaten to unearth the truth, she murders both Jonny Hoxham and Rufus Coulter, and attempts to kill Lucy before being confronted and arrested.
Note: While Alice insists Jessica was in love with her as well, there is no evidence to support that it was more than friendship on Jessica’s side.
