A bartender at a dive bar, Kay lives openly as a lesbian in the late 70s/early 80s, offering Wendy glimpses of a more free-spirited life. But despite all her claims of "excruciating honesty", Kay does have to lie occasionally about her life to placate her ex-husband so she can maintain visits with their young son.
