The only daughter of Lord Balon Greyjoy of the Iron Islands, she is a fierce warrior and commands her own longship, The Black Wind. Tougher than her brother Theon, proud, strong and Ironborn, Yara could be the first Queen of the Iron Islands. She would be the first Queen of this patriarchal realm that doesn't believe that women should fight let along command ships.
Yara is named Asha in the books, and is straight. As only the second LGBTQ main or recurring character on Game of Thrones, this marks a welcome shift from the books.
