In season one, she secretly dated Pam the bartender, but they broke up when Ellen went on to stay in NASA. She married her beard, but when Pam rolled back into her life, Ellen had a lot of regrets. Still, her political aspirations kept her closeted.
Eventually Ellen and Larry marry, even having a child, but both remained closeted. Near the end of her first term as President, Ellen came out ahead of the news that Larry was gay. She was elected to a second term, passed Marriage Equality, and married Pam in a private ceremony in 2001.
