Patricia was a powerful and highly accomplished woman in her 50s, known for being one of the earliest female surgeons. Having built a distinguished career in surgery, she has since transitioned into a significant bureaucratic role within the healthcare system. With the upcoming hospital restructure, Patricia was set to become the new CEO of Shortland Street Hospital in 2001.

During her tenure, Patricia faced significant personal and professional challenges. She struggled with the fallout from her son Jack’s illness and eventual suicide, which deeply affected her. Additionally, a power struggle ensued when Victor maneuvered to replace her as CEO, a move she initially fought alongside Chris and Rachel.

The staff were shocked when it was revealed that the clean edged and married Patricia had previously been in a lesbian relationship for many years. Patricia’s heart began to fail and as the year ended it became clear she needed a transplant. The death of Judy’s boyfriend enabled Patricia to receive one but early the following year, she devastatingly lost her son Jack. After covering up Jack’s severe mental illness, Patricia decided it was best she stood down and she departed Ferndale.
