Sister Maria is kind nun. After being rejected by her family, she was taken care of by sister Veronica.
She is now part of the Sisters of Christ convent, an order distinct from the church as they fought for gay rights, in the AIDs movement and other cause that led most of them to being excomunicated from the church. It suits them just fine, as they believe in God but not the church.
