Biography

Demetria Devonne Lovato is an American singer, songwriter and actress. After appearing on the children’s television series Barney & Friends as a child, they received their breakthrough role as Mitchie Torres in the Disney Channel television film Camp Rock (2008) and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010).

Since signing with Hollywood Records, Lovato has earned one number-one album (Here We Go Again in 2009) and five top-five albums (Don’t Forget in 2008, Unbroken in 2011, Demi in 2013, Confident in 2015, and Tell Me You Love Me in 2017) on the US Billboard 200. They have also earned seven top-twenty entries on the country’s Billboard Hot 100: “This Is Me”, “Here We Go Again”, “Skyscraper”, “Give Your Heart a Break”, “Heart Attack”, “Cool for the Summer”, and “Sorry Not Sorry”. Of their television credits, Lovato starred as the titular character on Sonny with a Chance from 2009 to 2011; was featured as a judge and mentor on the American version of The X Factor in 2012 and 2013; and appeared as a recurring character on Glee.

In their documentary, Demi reveals they’re using a dating app, and in their search for love, they’re looking for either a man or a woman. “I am open to human connection,” they explained about their choice.

On May 19, 2021 Demi came out on Twitter as non-binary:

“Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all- I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward”
