A Trill, Gray joins with the Tal symbiote while on a Generation Ship, traveling the slow-road back to the Federation. However Gray dies when their ship hits interstellar debris, and his partner Adira takes on the symbiote.
At first, only Adira can see him in their mind. After an experience on a planet, Dr. Culber believes he can separate their consciousness and give Grey his own body. After a difficult and risky procedure, they do just that.
Grey is returned to life in an android body.
