China Beach

“China Beach” is set at an evacuation hospital/USO center during the Vietnam War. Nurse Colleen McMurphy is the principal character, pining for her true love, a married doctor, while dealing with the patients and other personnel at the base in the South China Sea.

The show is based on the book Home Before Morning (1983) written by the former U.S. Army Nurse Lynda Van Devanter. The show’s character Nurse Colleen McMurphy roughly follows Van Devanter’s experiences as a nurse in Vietnam.

In “China Men,” Boonie develops feelings for a woman who used to be a man.
