Overview
The series takes place in Berlin in the 1920s and tells the lives of the four protagonists Hedi, Fritzi, Harry and Georg, who work in the Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) department store, which belongs to the father of Harry and Fritzi, and the Eldorado nightclub,
While problems, such as inflation, shape the everyday lives of Berlin citizens, social life flourishes at the same time. Berlin nightlife begins to define itself through emancipation and sexual openness. But soon political radicalization will become noticeable.
The takeover of power by the National Socialists is casting its shadow: There are no loans for “Jewish” companies like the Kaufhaus des Westens.
