Overview
Based on the debut novel by American feminist author Marilyn French, The Women’s Room is set in 1950s America and follows the fortunes of Mira Ward, a conventional and submissive young woman in a traditional marriage, and her gradual feminist awakening.
The movie was weird, mostly since it was made at the height of ABC’s rampant maleness, but also because it was made to push the conversation. So it makes it’s point in an uncomfortable way that doesn’t quite stand up to the modern era.
As with so many things, the book is better.
