The X-Files

The X-Files

Overview

While the show was pretty amazing for it’s day, things fall apart when you realize there was no character bible. That meant there was no consistency in the characters, and they could change wildly week to week. And they did. Also the aliens plotlines made no sense, and god help us if we have to explain the movies. It’s a mess. What sucks the most is how fun the show was in the beginning. The Cigarette Smoking Man, the Lone Gunmen, and all the abductions. It was great. And then it fell over, weighed under it’s own hype, and fell apart.

The X-Files was picked up for a 10th season in 2016, and an 11th in 2017, and at this point we just curled up in a corner and cried about transmisogyny.

The show was canceled again in 2018, after Gillian Anderson decided not to come back to a show that had no women in the writer’s room. No, seriously. We do not blame her, and are somewhat relieved to say goodbye again.

Notable Queer-Centric Episodes

  • “Gender Bender” – Amish-esque aliens can change genders at will and accidentally kill via their pheromones.
  • “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were Monster” – They also meet a transgender prostitute.
