Queer as Folk (2022)

Overview

A vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies, exploring a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Notable Queer-Centric Episodes

  • 01×01 Babylon – this episode focuses on the auditions for Bussey’s Drag School, which are interrupted by a gunman opening fire. The rest of the series revolves around the survivors’ journey of healing. The episode is left on a positive note when Shar gives birth to her and Ruthie’s twins, whom they are still deciding on gender-neutral names for, as they refuse to assign them any gender at birth. They decide to call them Florence and Jett.
  • 01×06 – Pretend You’re Someone Else – The cast ride on a Mardi Gras float dedicated to the Babylon queer nightclub, adorned in matching rainbow kink harnesses over their clothes. Ruthie’s tee-shirt reads “a woman without a dick is like an angel without its wings.” Most of the episode is told as a flashback to her and Brodie’s experience at a homophobic Catholic boys’ school, exploring Ruthie’s trans “egg-crack” moment, her coming out, and decision to transition; and the fact she is fully embraced for such by her friends.
  • 01×07 Problemática – Shar takes Brenda to her first gay bar, where the latter discovers herself as a lesbian in a classic ladies’ room affair.
  • 01×08 Sacrilege – Brenda hosts a party to surprise her friends with the news that she has filed for divorce from her unsupportive husband and is publicly coming out as a lesbian. Ruthie realizes she may also like men.
