Overview

A sinister government conspiracy threatening a small town, a voracious monster trying to destroy our world, an otherworldly being just looking for a home that becomes a lonely boy’s best friend, etc. All the 80s movie tropes in one story. On purpose. In a good way.

Queer Plotline Timeline

There isn’t a queer plot line so much as a new character who turns out to be queer (late in season 3). This revelation doesn’t really figure into the main plot, but it does reverse a trope that’s been building over several episodes.

Is it Worth Watching?

Yes

An entertaining romp with lots of suspense and horror in the main plot, but if you aren’t into those things there’s also plenty of sci-fi, adventure, humor, and if all else fails, a totally bitchin’ 80s setting that will be wicked nostalgic if you lived through it or exotic and escapist if you didn’t.

Realness

The main plot might be outlandish, and Robin might be a little too good to be true in her heroic capacity, but all this is normal for an homage to 80s movies. Her explanation of why she hasn’t fallen for Steve (like every other girl in town) is touching and grounded in the romantic realities of any era.

Quality

Since Stranger Things is like an 80s movie that goes on forever, every kid gets a chance to save the day at least once, and Robin is no exception. Because she is one of the older kids, she also gets to be a mentor sometimes, and she’s pretty good at it.

Screentime

Almost every time fan favorite Steve is on screen, Robin is with him. They trade sidekick duties in their partnership, each taking the lead according to their abilities in any given situation, so Robin is given a lot to do and never fades into the background.
