Overview

On his wedding 25th anniversary, Roy Applewood tells his wife, Irma, that he plans to transition into a woman named Ruth. The family struggles with this change, and Ruth faces ostracism at church and at work both before and after her transition.

In the end, Ruth finds understanding from her boss, Frank, but not from her minister, Irma discovers that love transcends gender, and the family survives.
