Overview
Pose explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in the New York Ball culture world, beginning in the 1980s.
The show centers around Blanca who forms her own house, a self-selected family that provides support to LGBTQ youth who have been rejected by their birth families. They compete in the balls where opposing house members challenge each other in various categories and are judged on their outfits, attitude, or dance skills. Blanca’s former house mother, Elektra is her main competitor.
The show crosses over through the 1980s and 1990s, highlighting important moments in queer history of New York.
In addition to all characters listed here, there are numerous unnamed trans and queer characters who appear, especially in every ballroom scene.
