The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week – November 4, 2019

Queerest Things - Casey and Izzie

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Grace meets Jefferson for the first time on Black Lightning. Wendy meets Kay for the first time on Mindhunter, and I try to recover from death by Casey and Izzie on Atypical.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
Black Lightning – Season 3 Episode 4 “The Book of Occupation: Chapter Four” [Live]

I was looking forward to Grace meeting the Lightning family, and in this episode, she met Jefferson.

Black Lightning - Nice to finally meet you

It did not go well. Jefferson blew up with anger after learning Grace knows Anissa is Thunder and Blackbird. I’m mad too because I wish we could have seen her come out to Grace about her meta powers.

Grace freaks out over the yelling and shapeshifts into her tween self. I’m not gonna lie, friends, I thought it was super weird to see Anissa with tween Grace. I was like, “Change back! Change back!” Grace does shift back to her usual self and Anissa assures her she’s dedicated to her and their relationship.

That made me laugh.

I really hope Jefferson and the rest of the Lightning family warm up to Grace.

Mr. Robot – Season 4 Episode 4 “404 Not Found” [Live]

This season of Mr. Robot is so good, y’all! It reminds me of season one where every shot is cinematic perfection.

Our girl, Dom is trolling IRC for sex chats (like you would in the 90s) and invites a random girl she’s chatting with to her house. Random girl is played by Roberta Colindrez in a wig!

Mr Robot - I have this fantasy

It turns out it was all a nightmare and didn’t really happen. But I still enjoyed this brief moment of disaster lesbianism.

Mindhunter – Season 2 Episode 2 “Episode 2” [Streaming]

While Almost Family has been on hiatus due to Sportsball, I have been consoling myself with Wendy Carr on Mindhunter. In this episode, Wendy goes to the local Quantico dive bar and meets Kay the bartender who “plays for the other team.”

Mindhunter - I play for the other team

Those looks they shoot each other are perfection.

Atypical – Season 3 Episode 5 “Only Tweed” [Streaming]

I was at a tech conference last Thursday until this morning and I have a confession to make. I spent a lot of it hiding in the Speaker Green Room (as a freeloader, I didn’t speak) binging all of Atypical season 3. I have not yet recovered from death by Casey and Izzie. In my opinion, The #Cazzie storyline is one of the best ever in the history of queer television.

As I was watching it, I was getting impatient with the slow burn and felt angry with the writers for stringing the build-up along for so long. Now that I’m on the other side, I understand I was wrong. The writers knew what they were doing and the payoff was so worth it.

I don’t want to give everything away, because it just dropped last Friday and I want everyone to see it! But here are all the cute Casey and Izzie scenes in this episode.

Paige organized a remote dinner party for Sam, and Casey brought Izzie as her date because Evan was working.

Cute moment one: Casey Introducing Izzie as her date.

Atypical Casey and Izzie - I'm her date

Their height difference absolutely kills me.

Cute moment two: Casey’s gay panic face when Izzie scratches her back.

Atypical Casey and Izzie - I can reach it

While I was watching, Casey’s panic face filled me with Queer Fan Trust Issues anxiety, but looking at it now, it’s so cute.

Cute moment three: Gretchen being literally the only person at the dinner who notices the chemistry between Casey and Izzie.

Atypical Casey and Izzie - Must eat cheese

The look on Gretchen’s face says, “Am I the only one who sees this?”

Cute moment four: Gretchen saying she thought Casey and Izzie were a couple.

Atypical Casey and Izzie - I thought you two were a couple

It was a very loud and defensive “What?” from the two of them.

This is just a taste of all the Casey and Izzie goodness Atypical gave us in season 3. Thank you, Atypical writers, for this gift.

I’m also happy to announce Atypical has been officially made a Show we Love.

Hopefully, I will have been brought back to life in time to watch the return of Almost Family this Wednesday! I can’t wait.
