On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Happy New Year’s Eve! I spent my last days of TwentyGayTeen re-watching Theo Crain brooding on Hill House for the third time.
- Runaways – Season 2 Episode 1 “Rock Bottom” [Streaming]
-
I’m continuing to make my way through Runaways and still enjoying it just okay.
I can’t put my finger on what I don’t like about it exactly. I think it’s the overall monotone acting across the entire cast. I feel like we don’t get to really know anyone because everyone’s personality is muted.
Also, Nico and Karolina so far have had very little screen time together. Karolina is always sneaking off to see her bio dad, and Nico is with the rest of the gang on missions. Nico had more conversations with Topher than Karolina in one episode.
When the two of them are together, Karolina spends time hiding her dad visits from Nico, or they argue.
They did have this nice scene in this episode.
I loved that they showed consent in this scene because they really messed up before when Alex asked Livvie for consent, and she said, “Don’t make this awkward.” I think it’s so important to portray consent as sexy, and not like if you ask for consent, girls will think you’re awkward and be turned off.
I am less than halfway through, so I will continue to watch with an open mind.
- The Haunting of Hill House – Season 1 Episode 10 “Silence Lay Steadily” [Streaming]
-
Over the Winter break, my wife and I re-watched The Haunting of Hill House. This was my third time watching the series, and I love it more and notice new cool details every time I watch it.
I think Theo Crain brooding against a wall represents the collective mood of the last 2 years regarding our political climate.
And this scene is us going into 2019.
Bring it, TwentyBiTeen, I’m ready for you.
It’s still pretty quiet this week, TV-wise. We do have another new episode of Steven Universe, and Grown-ish comes back on Wednesday.
