On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, the quiet week of queer content gave me a chance to cover the Tommy premiere episode — a new drama with a lesbian lead character.
- Tommy – Season 1 Episode 1 “In Dreams Begin Responsibilities” [Catch Up]
-
We’re two episodes into the new cop drama Tommy and so far we know Abigail “Tommy” Thomas is the first woman police chief of Los Angeles. She was appointed after the former Chief went down in flames after a sex abuse scandal (this sounds very similar to our new real-life Police Commissioner here in Philly).
And she is a lesbian.
We also know she has a strained relationship with her adult daughter, Kate, who she had with a husband she divorced when Kate was 10.
But the most exciting thing we learned in the Tommy premiere episode is Diggle’s Wife (Lyla from Arrow) is into Tommy!
I have ALWAYS loved Lyla and I am so excited to see Audrey Marie Anderson play a queer character!
My wife and I are also big fans of Edie Falco, so I’m feeling optimistic about this show.
- Riverdale – Season 4 Episode 13 “Chapter Seventy: The Ides of March” [Live]
-
How have Cheryl and Toni been doing lately? Things are pretty chill after the extremely messed up “Cheryl is keeping her dead brother hidden in the house” storyline wrapped up.
Toni got revenge on the dude who sexually harassed Cheryl seasons ago. That was a nice “avenging your girlfriend” episode. All in all, Choni is good.
Remember Cheryl’s mom’s brothel, The Maple Club? Veronica and Cheryl reopened it as a speakeasy to promote Veronica’s maple syrup rum (gross). This rum is in direct competition with Hiram’s rum, so he sent his daughter and Veronica’s half-sister, Hermosa (played by the AMAZING Mishel Prada) to go undercover and infiltrate their secret bar.
Hermosa pretending to be “Rosa” makes a date to talk to Toni and Cheryl at La Bonne Nuit which is now a dance club. They meet up and for no reason at all the three of them dance together.
Gratuitous Hermosa/Cheryl/Toni dancing scene? Yes, please!
It was a trap set by Cheryl and Toni, but that’s okay. I am happy Vida fans got at least one queerish scene during Mishel’s time on Riverdale.
This week: My wife and I will be making our way through the fifth and final season of Cable Girls and the final two episodes of Almost Family.
