For All Mankind – Season 3 Episode 9 “Coming Home” [Streaming]

Wow! What an episode.

The Speaker of the House (appropriately named Dick) wants Ellen to support a bill that will give Congress control of NASA’s budget. Ellen doesn’t want to give congress the power to de-fund the space program, so of course, she is going to veto it. Dick threatens her by saying they are going to subpoena the tapes from the recording device JFK set up in the Oval Office and if there is any gay on it they are going to send Larry to jail and Ellen will be impeached. So either sign the bill or your gay husband will be outed.

For All Mankind, President Ellen Comes Out - Sign the NASA Bill

Don’t you think a device recording every conversation Larry and Ellen has in her office is something she should have known about? They could have talked about the gay stuff somewhere else.

So how bad can these tapes be?

For All Mankind President Ellen Comes out - you lied under oath

Oh, yeah, that’s really bad.

Ellen and Larry go into troubleshooting mode and after exhausting every possible outcome, Larry decides the only way out of this is to fess up. He’d be charged with perjury but Ellen will be spared. Ellen tries to dissuade him, but he says he wants to do it. To be honest, he looks kind of relieved. He won’t have to continue to live a lie for the sake of Ellen’s political career.

The big moment arrives, Larry steps up to the podium to confess his gay affair to the American People at an unscheduled press conference, and as he’s about to do it, Ellen takes over. At that point my wife and I braced ourselves for what we knew was about to happen.

Wow. WOW. President Ellen came out.

Last week, I said maybe Ellen will come out or she’ll be out after the 10-year time jump in season four. I was pleasantly surprised it happened now, and we still have another episode left of this season! What is going to happen to Ellen and Larry?

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, the creators of the show let us know Ellen’s story was a planned 3-season arc.

Jodi Balfour knew this was going to happen when she was hired for the role.

If you want to go down a hole like I did, listen to the official For All Mankind Official Podcast to hear and interview with Jodi and 2 of the show’s writers.

You can also head to Jodi’s Instagram account for some really sweet posts.

Ugh, I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH.

In non-gay news, how much of a surprise was the Korean astronaut? This week’s finale is going to be a nail-biter.

This week: The same day For All Mankind airs its finale, the new League of Their Own has it’s premiere! I can’t wait to see it.
