On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, with Black Lightning and Almost Family on pause it was a really quiet week. All I have is Dex and Fiona X hooking back up on Stumptown.
- Stumptown – Season 1 Episode 6 “Dex, Drugs and Rock & Roll” [Live]
-
Dex drags Miles to a “punk show” and — surprise! — the musician, Fiona X is her ex.
Well, that’s a way for Hoffman to find out X is Dex’s Ex.
Dex fills him in: It was 10 years ago, they dated for 5-6 months, Fiona got signed, went off on tour and she hasn’t seen her until that show.
Later, Fiona tracks Dex down at Grey’s bar. She says she wants to hire her to be her bodyguard because she’s being stalked. Fiona’s manager guy does not think there is a stalker, he thinks she just needs someone to hang out. At this point, I’m like, “It’s him. He made up the stalker and he’s gaslighting her.”
Dex “Bodyguards” Fiona by spending time drinking in her hotel room, while Fiona aggressively flirts with her. I have to be honest, I do not like Fiona. I’m not into the aggressive ex character, they make me cringe. I also cringed when Hoffman interviewed her at the police station re: The Stalker and she changed the subject to his and Dex’s relationship.
Yes, Fiona, you’re such a tough nut to crack (hard eye roll). I thought that was rude, inappropriate and cheesy.
Speaking of cheesy, back in Fiona’s hotel room she plays a piano ballad cover of that terrible The Fixx song from the 80s, “One Thing Leads to Another” and it works its magic on Dex.
Post-bang, Dex drops this gem of a line.
That made me laugh. It was totally something Robin Scherbatsky would say.
Hoffman finds a stalker suspect and Dex is able to catch him in the act and get him arrested. Fiona wants to celebrate with a table covered in lines of blow, but Dex passes.
Later it looks like Fiona egged the guy on by sending him letters encouraging him to be her “protector.” Fiona’s defense is she’s spending too much time doing coke and writing creepy songs about Dex to even know what town she’s in, let alone write letters to a random obsessed fan.
Finally, everyone realizes it’s the manager (called it!). He’s arrested, Fiona goes off on tour after unsuccessfully asking Dex to come with her and Dex and Hoffman go bowling.
I’m really glad Dex had a queer storyline this episode, and it was good to learn more about her past relationship, but I was so turned off by Fiona I couldn’t get invested in it. I’m looking forward to seeing what other queer storylines Dex has in the future.
Finally FINALLY Almost Family is coming back for real this week! The wait has felt like an eternity!
