Queer Beats – November 8, 2019

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, many of our favorite couples hung out irl (Amandie, Juliantina, Kate/Sophie) and new trailers dropped for “Butch Pal for the Straight Gal” and “Season of Love”!

Almost Family

Victoria Cartagena delivered more Amandie pictures this week and I AM VERY THANKFUL! I’m starting to love this couple so much that the classic queer-TV-fan fear of the sudden disappearance of one of these characters is creeping in. But for now, I am just excited for a new episode next week!

Amar a Muerte

It’s always a good week when there’s new Juliantina pictures:

Batwoman

The cast of Batwoman hung out to watch the latest episode of the show this week. As if that wasn’t cute enough on its own, Meagan Tandy wore a backwards hat.

Atypical

Brigette Lundy-Paine came out as non-binary this week. They mentioned how scary it is to come out so every go show them some extra love!

The Bold Type

We got a premiere date for season 4 of The Bold Type and it’s only a couple months away!

Broad City

Amazon has added D’Arcy Carden and Abbi Jacobson to the cast of their pilot based on A League of Their Own. There has been no official word on any queerness but if it turns out that there isn’t any, we will riot.

Butch Pal for the Straight Gal

Butch Pal for the Straight Gal, a scripted spoof show based on Queer Eye, released a trailer this week! Be sure to donate to their fundraiser if you are able to!

Dickinson

Dickinson was officially picked up for a season 2!

Home and Away

The Home and Away fandom has been growing fast with the addition of Willex, a new queer couple that everyone has fallen for. New information on the couple appeared in New Idea, an Australian magazine:

Killing Eve

New casting announcements were released this week for Killing Eve. Of note is the addition of Gemma Whelan, well known for playing Yara in Game of Thrones.

Lost Girl

Everyone’s favorite Valkyrie (and Batwoman Villain) will be at QFX East!

One Day at a Time

If this ODAAT hiatus has got you down and you live in the Los Angeles area, you’re in luck! The cast and crew will be doing a panel at Vulture Festival this weekend.

Orange is the New Black

AT&T sponsored a film lab project this year called “Hello Lab.” This project paired up professional writers, actors and filmmakers with upcoming artists who are hoping to break into the industry. Lena Waithe mentored a short film called Spilt Milk which stars Dascha Polanco (from OiTNB) and Zuri Adele (from Good Trouble) as exes who reconnect. The Hello Lab films are expected to drop on Youtube today but, in the meantime, you can watch the trailer and behind-the-scenes videos here:

Riverdale

Y’all, the moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived: Mishel Prada on Riverdale! She looks amazing already and, just gonna throw this out there, I wouldn’t be opposed to someone making a Mishel-on-Riverdale Youtube edit for me to watch.

I don’t know what to say about this tweet except that I love her:

Stranger Things

Stranger Things released their blooper reel this week and it included a few moments from our favorite, Robin.

Stumptown

Dex finally kissed a girl this week! HOORAY!

Wynonna Earp

Tello Films released the trailer for their much anticipated holiday romcom, Season of Love. It will star Dominique Provost-Chalkley and looks so good!

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
