On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Teenage Bounty Hunters season 1 becomes my newest binge-watch obsession and I May Destroy You thankfully defies the trans rejection trope.

I May Destroy You did not have a lot of non-cis-male queer content, but Michaela Coel’s exploration of sexual consent in the modern age was a unique piece of TV storytelling. I highly recommend it (with a trigger warning caveat). The story centers around Arabella (played by Michaela Coel) and her best friend Terry. While out at a cafe with Bella, Terry gives a cute waiter named Kai her number, and the two of them wind up going on a spontaneous date.
While they’re on their date, a server fanpersons out on Kai. Terry wants to know what he does to have such enthusiastic fans, but he stays vague so she goes to the bathroom and Googles him. She finds out he’s a musician and transgender. Terry sits back down at the table and Kai can tell she did some research.
Terry looked super uncomfortable, but she stayed.
Ugh, I thought it was going to be another rejection story like when Alex’s mom from Runaways rejected Paul on 9-1-1: Lone Star. But on the next episode (the season 1 finale) we saw Kai and Terri being cute on the couch while they and Terri’s friends watched the debut of her first commercial acting gig.
This show doesn’t give you a ton of cute, happy moments so I was very surprised and relieved!
There is no official news on a season two, and the finale wrapped things up like it was intended to be a one-season show. If there is another season, I hope Kai is in it.

Multiple people told me this show was up my ally and they were right.
I love ridiculous teen comedies filled with drama and Teenage Bounty Hunters season 1 is exactly that. It’s about fraternal twin sisters Sterling and Blair, who stumble into becoming bounty hunters. It takes place in Georgia and the twins attend a rich, conservative, Christian private school. It’s an interesting spin on your typical high school comedy. The kickass bounty hunting juxtaposed with usual teen drama is perfect, especially when one bleeds into the other. The show has a sprinkling of serious moments as well and, of course, some queerness on top.
If you need a break from anything intense you’re watching right now, give Teenage Bounty Hunters season 1 some of your attention. It is super fun.
