On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, we meet a character we’ve never seen before — jealous Maya on Station 19.

- Station 19 – Season 4 Episode 8 “Make No Mistake, He’s Mine” [Live]
-
Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy have been really good since the mid-season hiatus, and I’m not saying that as my usual sarcastic self. It’s been Shondaland at its best with well-done stories addressing Black Lives Matter and COVID. In the mix is also a really sad story for our favorite Grey’s19 couple — Carina’s brother, Andrew DeLuca, getting murdered while trying to catch a human trafficker.
Carina is devastated and Maya is on bereavement leave to be the best “too soft” girlfriend she can be. Although it looks like she sucks at making espresso.
Danielle and Stefania should parody the espresso scene from Mulholland Drive. That would be hilarious.
While Carina is dealing with her brother’s affairs, a random visitor shows up at the front door.
It’s one of Carina’s Italian doctor friends, Gabriella, making a surprise visit to support her after her brother’s death.
That’s nice although Maya looks a little taken off guard.
Her showing up would be a super nice grand friend gesture, except she’s being a pretentious jerk to Maya.
Oh, she’s a pretentious jerk and Carina’s former bang hang.
Ex-sex buddy is cool, but saying “it’s ten points less” is a real asshole thing to do. Why would you show up at your friend’s house and insult her girlfriend to her face but in another language she doesn’t understand.
New at relationships Maya looks a little like jealous Maya around Gabriella.
Carina and Gabriella hang out, laugh and reminisce about back in the day. Maya looks like she wants to escape, so when she gets a text from Jack saying his girlfriend’s mom has taken a turn for the worse, Maya jumps up. She lies and says it was Andy who texted before she jets out of the apartment. Ugh, I hate lying Maya. Old habits are hard the break.
Maya shows up at Jack’s girlfriend’s apartment and he’s like, “What are you doing here?” As Jack says she’s not a drop everything and be there for a sad friend type. Maya tells him about Gabriella and how Carina is laughing and eating for the first time since Andrew’s death since she showed up.
Jack calls her out on being bad at relationships and helps her walk through what she’s feeling. She feels threatened by an old friend dropping in and making her girlfriend feel better when Maya hasn’t been able to do that. Jack’s like who cares, it only matters that Carina is feeling better.
I have to say, I’ve never been in a relationship before jealous Maya is cute.
However, I hate whenever she’s uncomfortable feeling feelings she runs to Jack. I swear this show has to mess with me every few episodes making it look like she’s going to hook up with Jack again.
Captain Bishop does Jack a favor and lets him and his girlfriend’s son go several stories up a firetruck ladder to see his grandma in her hospital room. I feel like a lot of rules are being broken here, but I’ll give it a TV pass. On the ground Maya confesses her Gabriella-related feelings to Carina.
I’m really glad Maya apologized for lying. That’s a big step in breaking patterns. Carina says she has a special relationship with Gabriella just like Maya has with Jack, but what they have together is different.
That was a perfect ending to this mini conflict. No big drama, just honesty, talking it out and being sweet in the end.
I love them so much it scares me. Please, Shonda, don’t mess with #Marina!!
This week: Supergirl is back for its sixth and final season. I wonder what Alex Danvers has been up to.
