The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week – February 8, 2021

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Caro and Ashley get some vague screen time on Nurses and we find out what happens to Choni before the Riverdale time jump.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
Nurses – Season 1 Episode 7 “Lifeboat” [Live]

Nurses, a show I was depending on to be low stress with decent queer content, has been disappointing me lately. 2 episodes ago Ashley was barely in it even though she is a main character and Caro hasn’t shown up at all since episode 4. Meanwhile, I’ve had to sit through Wolf bungle his way through his job while everyone treats him like a toddler.

I know it’s the same old story, but if a queer character is a main, why can’t she get equal time to everyone else?

Anyway, back to this episode. Things start off with Ashley maybe getting a needle stick while breaking up a fight between 2 patients.

Nurses Caro and Ashley- Ashley and the needle

She looked super freaked out by the incident. Head charge nurse Damien tests the glove by filling it with water.

Nurses Caro and Ashley - The needle didn't puncture the glove

Ashley didn’t get a needle stick, but she doesn’t look relieved.

For uninteresting reasons, Ashley throws a last-minute house party and Caro helps her get ready. While carrying a case of Voyageur Lager (which is a real name of a brewing company in Minnesota) Ashley trips and starts to have a panic attack.

Caro is really sweet and that’s nice, but what is this about? If your girlfriend started having a panic attack over almost getting a needle stick (which I imagine is always a risk working in a hospital) wouldn’t you want to find out why? This show usually doesn’t take multiple episodes to get to the bottom of things so why now? Also, they’re already at the “I Love You” stage? When did that happen and why did it happen off-screen?

At the party one of Ashley’s friends is doing tea leaf readings.

Nurses Caro and Ashley - That's a parachute

Again, cute, but still vague. We’re going to have to read the tea leaves to figure out what’s going on with Caro and Ashley.

Caro leaves the party early because she has to work in the morning and that’s it.

I really hope Caro and Ashley get some quality plot development and we find out why she had the panic attack.

Riverdale – Season 5 Episode 3 “Chapter Seventy-Nine: Graduation” [Live]

It’s the big Riverdale graduation episode!

Toni’s Nana came to the ceremony and Cheryl overheard her talking to Toni by her locker.

Riverdale - We're proud of you Toni

I hate when characters overhear something then walk away. Toni just mentioned Cheryl and her Nana didn’t flip out. She seems to be coming around.

After a graduation episode full of feelings and nostalgia, Cheryl sits down with Toni for a serious talk.

Cheryl decides to focus on repairing her family’s business and make up for all the past evil they have inflicted on the town instead of going to college. She breaks up with Toni because as things stand now, her family’s legacy is in conflict with Toni’s family and she doesn’t feel right being together until she’s fixed that.

Okay, Cheryl means business and is willing to end her relationship (for now at least) over it.

What’s next? TIME JUMP! I love a TV time jump and this one will be 6 years into the future. I am very curious about what will happen with Choni and how Toni’s pregnancy will play into it.

This week: Black Lightning, Queen Sugar and a new episode of This is Us are back this week! I’ll let you know if anything queer happens.
