The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week – April 25, 2022

Queerest Things Header - Derry Girls season 3

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, I didn’t watch anything significantly queer last week so I’m going to talk about the queer things I’m looking forward to watching like Derry Girls season 3 and Gentleman Jack season 2.

I spent the last 10 days in isolation after the COVID finally got me. It was very mild, but while I was sequestered to the 3rd while floor the wife and kid stayed away, I watched A LOT of television. Can you believe I didn’t see anything queer enough to report back on? The lesbian friend made a few appearances on Russian Doll season 2 and there was a little Malkia/Angelica/Lucia drama on Good Trouble, but not enough to write a whole recap on. Instead, I am going to write about the queer things I’m excited to watch in the future!

Gentleman Jack – Season 2

Watching Anne Lister gay her way though the 1800s was an absolute delight. Queer folks have been around since the dawn of time and seeing our lost and ignored history portrayed on screen is fabulous. Suranne Jones does such a great job playing Lister and I am looking forward to seeing what shenanigans she gets up to next.

I’ve been jealous for the folks in the UK who have already been enjoying season two. But today, we get our turn!

The US release date for Gentleman Jack season 2 is Monday, April 25 on HBO. Aka TODAY!

For All Mankind – Season 3

The power of wlw content will get me to watch a lot of shows with subject matter I have zero interest in. I heard so many good things about For All Mankind, I decided to give it a try even though I could care less about space. Oh my gosh, I am so glad I did, because it is one of the best shows I’ve seen in the last few years.

It’s an alternative history of the space race tweaked just enough from reality to be really captivating. The queer content is A+. My wife and I were super into it and I CAN NOT WAIT for season 3.

The release date for For All Mankind season 3 is June 10, 2022 on Apple+

Derry Girls – Season 3

Derry Girls is a delightful UK series about a group of Catholic school girls (+ 1 boy) in 90s Northern Ireland. The jokes come so quickly you’re still laughing at the previous line when the new one is up. It’s definitely one of my favorite comedies in recent years. Derry Girls season 3 is its third and sadly last. It already started airing in the UK (jealous) and we do not yet know when it will drop on Netflix in the US.

Like everyone else, I am rooting for the WeeLesbian to have a love interest in season 3! There are no signs of queerness in the trailer.

But maybe this Instagram post from Nicola Coughlan is a clue.

The US release date for Derry Girls season 3 is TBD on Netflix

This week: Two words — Gentleman Jack!
