Grown-ish – Season 2 Episode 10 “Wild’n Cuz I’m Young” [Live]

By the end of the last episode, it was obvious Nomi was falling for Professor Shane, but I didn’t think it was going to be reciprocated. In this episode, Zoey is off making bad decisions and texting Nomi to join her. Nomi is in Professor Shane’s car after a night of queer culture immersion when she gets her texts.

Grownish - We could hang out for a little bit longer

Professor Shane says she’d like to keep hanging out, but she doesn’t want to keep her from her friends. She says these will be four of the best years of her life and she should go have fun. Nomi’s like, “Okay I’m going to go have an amazing time and I’ll text you after.”

She starts to leave, and then this happens.

Grownish - Shane and Nomi make out

Folks, I am not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but when that happened I clutched my pearls. I really thought this was going down “in love with your teacher” trope road, but I did not think Professor Shane was going to be into it too. And I definitely did not think she would be the one to initiate a make out.

To be honest, I am having a hard time with the professor/student thing especially since Nomi is in her class which gives Shane a position of power over her and Nomi is 19 or 20, and Shane is in her 40s.

Anyway, back to our story. Zoey is being responsible for a minute at the apartment studying when Nomi comes home after 2am glowing from spending time with Professor Shane.

Grownish - I have fallen deeply in like

Nomi never tells Zoey who she is in like with, but she does talk her into blowing off studying and going out to celebrate.

Wow. I am very curious to see where this goes. Are they just going to start dating? Is this a violation of school policy and will Prof. Shane get in trouble? Or will this go down the Nomi experiencing heartbreak road which would be on brand for the real Shane.

Riverdale – Season 3 Episode 13 “Chapter Forty-Eight: Requiem for a Welterweight” [Live]

Before Rivedale took a little break, Cheryl gave Toni an “I’m Sorry” gift of a girl gang Toni named the Pretty Poisons. Now Jughead’s upset because all of the female Serpents are defecting to Toni and Cheryl’s gang. Jughead thinks he can talk to Toni, get her to rejoin the Serpents and all will be back to normal. I don’t know why he thinks this will be an easy fix after he kicked Cheryl and Toni out of the Serpents in the first place.

Jughead’s talk with Toni doesn’t go according to his plan. There seems to be a glass ceiling in the Serpent family, and if Toni were to rejoin she would never have an opportunity to have a leadership position there. With the Pretty Poisons she is the gang leader.

Riverdale - You're Cheryl's vanity project

I don’t know why Jughead thinks pushing Toni’s buttons about Cheryl is going to win her over.

Meanwhile, Cheryl is running a Pretty Poisons training session when Toni tells her about Jughead’s BS.

You can see Cheryl is scheming something without consulting Toni first. I do like that the show is dealing with the fact that Toni is always in Cheryl’s shadow. I want Toni to have a personality and life of her own besides being Cheryl’s arm candy, and it looks like the show is trying to make that happen.

Cheryl has a posse of Pretty Poisons greet a couple Serpents as they leave Pop’s diner.

Riverdale - We're the Pretty Poisons, Peabrain

And then The Poisons beat them up.

When Toni finds out what Cheryl did she is rightfully pissed, and they have their second ever fight.

Riverdale - Is this gang mine or yours

We’ll see if Cheryl can control her control issues.

Broad City – Season 5 Episode 6 “Lost and Found” [Live]

This episode opens with Abbi snoring in Leslie’s bed. After she wakes up, Leslie gives her a present — a floppy yellow hat. Abbi puts it on and you can tell she’s unsure about it. To be honest, we’re all unsure about it because it’s a pretty dorky hat.

Broad City - Abbi's yellow hat

For the rest of the episode, Abbi’s yellow hat is a hilarious metaphor for her relationship with Leslie and her sexual orientation in general. Ilana is obviously jealous about Abbi and Leslie and hates the hat.

Broad City - Abbi's yellow hat Leslie got it for me

I absolutely loved this discussion about the hat. I thought it was a very Broad City way for Abbi and Ilana to process the issues Ilana is having with this new relationship.

For the rest of the episode, the two of them are on a non-hat related adventure, but Ilana keeps giving Abbi’s yellow hat the side-eye and snarky comments.

Broad City - Ilana giving Abbi's yellow hat side-eye

At the end Abbi and Leslie are hanging out, and Abbi comes clean about not being into the hat. Leslie is totally cool with it and tells her she’s cuter without it anyway.

Broad City - Abbi's yellow hat sweet relief

I love this discussion on accepting bisexuality (you don’t have to commit exclusively to hats to be with a girl) without a lecture or an After School Special-style learning episode.

We’ll see if Ilana eventually gets on board.

Charmed – Season 1 Episode 13 “Manic Pixie Nightmare” [Live]

It looks like Mel and Jada are leveling up their relationship to “toothbrush” status after Mel suggests keeping one at Jada’s place.

Charmed - Are we at the toothbrush point?

Later, Maggie uses her powers to figure out Mel’s sleeping with the leader of the Sarcana.

Charmed - You're sleeping with Jada

Maggie’s afraid “sex brain” is going to cloud Mel’s judgement, but Mel insists her judgement is just fine.

Later, Jada texts Mel that she has something urgent to tell her. Mel goes back to Jada’s apartment to find out what it is.

Charmed - Your detective ex called

Mel asks her if she doesn’t want to see her parents and Jada shares her backstory with her. Her parents don’t know she’s a witch, and on top of that, they think she’s in a cult. She was really close to her family until she discovered her powers when down a self-destructive path and eventually ran away.

Then Jada pops this question.

Charmed - Want to meet the parents?

That didn’t seem to go well, but by the end Mel has a change of heart.

Charmed - Meeting the parents, that's a big deal

Y’all, I think I’m becoming team Mel and Jada now. They are really sweet to each other, and Mel doesn’t have to keep her powers a secret like she does with Niko.

Suddenly, their cute and supportive conversation is interrupted.

Charmed - Jada is shot

Whaaat was that about? We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.

Tonight Black Lighting is back, AND on Thursday For the People season two starts! I can not wait to have Kate Littlejohn back on my TV!
