Queerest Things - The gay one on Stranger Things

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Rhea Butcher is a guestbian on Good Trouble; I found out who’s the gay one on Stranger Things and write part 6 of my 10-part love letter to Tanya Saracho.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
Good Trouble – Season 2 Episode 5 “Happy Heckling” [Live]

Alice goes to a local queer comedy night for some awkward networking and spots famous comic, Lindsay Brady (played by Rhea Butcher).

Good Trouble - Is that Lindsay Brady?

Alice is a big fan and has always wanted Lindsay to follow her back on Instagram even though they are very “stingy with their follows.”

During Lindsay’s set Alice fangirls too loudly and pisses them off.

Good Trouble - You know I can hear you right

Lindsay rips into Alice with a barrage of comedic insults, and she is so humiliated she runs out.

Later she tells Joey what happened and they admit they have a history with Lindsay being an asshole.

Good Trouble - Yeah we have a history

Lindsay is the kind of person who will steal your girlfriend if they’re one of their exes. We all know that person, and Lindsay did it to Joey in the past. Gross. I’m always disturbed by people who are only attracted to people they can steal away from someone else to feed their egos.

Even though she’s afraid to show her face in the club again, Alice ovaries up and goes back the next night. Guess who she runs into in the bathroom?

Good Trouble - Oh it's you

They apologize for ripping into her but explain even happy heckling can derail your set. The rest of Alice’s friends enter the bathroom, and they do some speed networking. Alice gets to plug her Insta videos, and they all take pictures together.

That night Alice is thrilled Lindsay started following her on Instagram, but Joey is not feeling the same way. Not only did they publicly humiliate Alice, but Joey is not over their history of shitty behavior. Alice tells them she’s not about to become BFFs with Lindsay, just making a move that’s really good for her career.

I totally get what Alice is saying. Almost all our faves are problematic in some way or another, but success is all about networking and relationships. You have to weigh the price of not burning a bridge with violating your code of ethics. In this case, Alice was willing to pay the price of admission. Joey eventually chilled out but told her to be careful because they don’t trust Lindsay.

Later, Lindsay sends Alice a DM saying they are willing to help her work on a “tight five.” I only know what that means from watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Uh, oh, does this mean Alice is going to continue to form a relationship with Lindsay past this episode? Does Lindsay know Alice is dating Joey and are they up to their girlfriend-stealing shenanigans again? We’ll have to wait and see.

Grown-ish – Season 2 Episode 18 “Nice for What” [Live]

My daughter Josephine has recently gotten into Grown-ish and we have been binge-watching it together. When Nomi and Professor Shane kiss, Josephine says, “I don’t know whether to cheer or go EW!” Same, girl, same.

Nomi spent the night at Professor Shane’s, and she wants to get a ride with her to school. Dr. Shane says she can’t today.

Grown-isn - I have a 19 year old girlfriend

Poor Nomi. Professor Shane inspires her to come out and immediately stuffs her into the closet.

Later, Professor Shane is at the school bookstore buying an old lady book, and Zoey nervously checks her out. She tries so hard to not reveal her knowledge of her and Nomi’s a relationship that she inevitably makes it obvious.

Grown-ish - You clearly know about Nomi and me

Nomi blows up at Zoey for the slip-up, and it turns into a big fight. Nomi is furious that Zoey may have messed things up for the two of them. But Zoey doesn’t believe Nomi is really okay with her and the Professor’s “non-traditional” relationship where she’s not allowed to tell anyone about it or be seen in public together.

Nomi goes to the Professor’s house to apologize to her on Zoey’s behalf and winds up facing the reality of her place in their relationship.

Nomi consistently makes the best decisions of all of the characters on Grown-ish, and I’m glad she realized Professor Shane’s terms were making her so disappointed in herself she needed to end it.

Is this the last of professor Shane though? The drama was fun, but I think it’s best for Nomi if she stays broken up with her.

Stranger Things – Season 3 Episode 7 “Chapter Sever: The Bite” [Streaming]

I’m not a Stranger Things person. I thought season one was fine. Season Two I was like, “Why do people like this show so much?” And season three was better, but even though I grew up in the 80s, it was way too much nostalgia porn for me.

I knew someone was going to be the gay one on Stranger Things season three, and I put all of my money on Max. I was totally wrong!

the gay one on Stranger Things - But Tammy Thompson's a girl

I did not foresee Robin of Scoop Troop being the queer one at all!

In season four I would like them to have her meet a girl at the video store because that’s how I met my wife.

Otherwise, this is literally my recap of season three.

Vida – Season 2 Episode 6 ” Episode 12″ [Live]
Dear, Tanya Saracho.

Hi, it's been a few weeks. I've been traveling and busy writing about my feelings for Pose and the new Tales of the City. Rest assured it doesn't mean I love Vida any less.

I have three things to say about this episode.

First: I love a good pegging scene. Well done.

Next, Hot Topic: Emma is a Le Tigre fan!
Finally: As soon as Lyn told Emma to go get edibles from her purse I knew exactly what was going to happen. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion, and I could feel every thought going through Emma's head in my soul.
Vida - Did you find them
Mishel's acting, Lyn's pleading, the music...everything made this one of the most gut-wrenching scenes I've ever watched.

Emma didn't have to say it out loud, you felt her thinking Vidalia has fucked her yet again from the dead. This time via a overspending ghost Lyn created.

I have never felt more badly for Emma then in this episode.
Vida - Emma gets a hand
At first I was really concerned with whose hand this was. But I soon learned this wasn't a big reveal of any kind, it was a gesture saying, "You will survive this."

Thank you again, for another amazing episode of television.

Love,
Tracy

PS. Emma wearing glasses and working on spreadsheets is my new and maybe forever sexuality.
Vida - Emma in glasses

This week is my birthday week! For my birthday I’ll get a new episode of Queen Sugar. Happy 49 to me!
