On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Debbie and Julia go to Julia’s homecoming dance on Shameless and Ava tries her best to be a supportive girlfriend after Sara returns from Crisis on Legends of Tomorrow.
Dear Readers,
It's Sunday night, we had folks over to watch The L Word: Generation Q finale and I have Jury Duty early in the morning. I won't be able to finish my L Word recap in time for this post. However, I am going to write a special TLWGQ Finale-only recap that will publish this Wednesday at 1pm ET. Stay tuned for that!
- Shameless – Season 10 Episode 11 “Location, Location, Location” [Catch Up]
-
You didn’t read my recap of Shameless last week? Well, too bad, you should have and I’m not going to remind you what happened.
Just kidding (see what I did there?).
Debbie is stuck going to Juila’s homecoming dance with her, and coincidentally, Julia’s mom (Deb’s sugar mama) Claudia’s birthday dinner is the same night. Deb tries to worm her way out of the dinner, but Claudia wants her to meet her friends and lays the guilt on thick.
Debbie agrees to the dinner but insists on picking the restaurant.
Now Debs is stuck in a classic sitcom “Managing Two Dates at the Same time” situation.
Julia buys her a tux for the dance and Mickey’s lesbian cousin, Sandy Milkovich, drops by the house while Debbie is trying to learn how to tie the bowtie. Luckily for Debs, she knows how to tie one.
I see what’s happening and I don’t hate it.
We just met Sandy this season btw. I think the show wanted to throw another gay Milkovich into the mix in time for Mickey and Ian’s wedding.
Debbie chooses a restaurant across the street from the dance venue and spends the night running back and forth between the two.
It falls apart when Debbie accidentally forgets to take off the boutonnière Claudia bought for Julia before sitting back down to dinner at the restaurant. Claudia catches on and walks across the street surprising Debbie and Julia at the dance.
Great, Julia’s not queer and was just messing around with Debbie to make her mom mad.
Julia and her mom devolve into fighting and Debbie slowly backs out of the room and gets the hell out of there.
That night, Debbie is sitting on the porch with Sandy talking about her crazy night and sharing a joint until this happens.
Okay, then.
Last night was the finale, I’ll let you know how it all worked out next week.
- Legends of Tomorrow – Season 5 Episode 2 “Meet the Legends” [Live]
-
Sara gets back from the crossover to find a camera crew at the Waverider shooting a documentary. Ava thought it would be good for the Legend’s PR. Sara is not pleased.
Meanwhile, Ava doesn’t know how to support Sara after Oliver’s death. She’s not the most emotional Clone on the planet. Mona suggests writing her condolence card and Ava gives that a shot. As she brings it to her, she overhears the mysterious new guy Behrad talking to Sara about Oliver.
Poor Ava.
Her card is hilariously unemotional too.
Ava is trying, but she doesn’t know what the right thing to do is. She asked everyone not to mention the O Word around Sara, because she thought it would upset her. That turned out to be the opposite of what she wanted.
I feel bad for Sara, but it’s been very entertaining to watch characters involved in the crossover go back to their respective shows and try to explain what happened.
By the end of the episode, Ava figures out what Sara needs and gives it to her in the form of an emotional speech while fighting bad guys at the same time.
This show is the best.
In the end, the Legends save the day, the documentarians get their story and Sara gives them an end scene.
The best part about that scene is it was not in the script.
Oh my goodness, I missed this show so much during its hiatus and I’m so glad it’s back.
This week — Look for my L Word: Generation Q season one finale recap on Wednesday!
