The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week – April 6, 2020

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, we got to see some of Maya and Carina’s vacation on Station 19 and met Scylla’s ex on Motherland: Fort Salem.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
Motherland: Fort Salem – Season 1 Episode 3 “A Biddy’s Life” [Live]

The Beltane festival is happening at Fort Salem which means a bunch of male witches visit the base to play lacrosse with their shirts off. Before the festivities begin Scylla gives Raelle a cute kiss goodbye, but in the background, a dude is menacingly watching them.

Motherland Fort Salem - I'll come find you after

Said dude also gives Raelle shit during the Lacrosse game.

Motherland Fort Salem - Where'd you learn to play

It looks like we’ve met Scylla’s ex-boyfriend and he was not happy to see her and Raelle together.

Later, dude confronts Scylla and we learn his name is Porter and Scylla ghosted him back in the day. He never got a chance to tell her how sorry he was about her parents getting killed because she disappeared.

Motherland Fort Salem - Your girlfriend just disappears

He is also shocked she joined the Witch Army because she was very anti-army when they were together. She tells him people change, but he doesn’t believe it.

When Raelle sees Porter again she confronts him about their lacrosse altercation. He apologizes and says he was taking his feelings out on the wrong person, the right person being Scylla. He makes it clear they were previously in a relationship and warns her to not get too attached.

Is he being an angry, abandoned ex-boyfriend or honestly trying to warn Raelle her new girlfriend is an evil balloon-loving a terrorist?

While wandering through the Fort Salem’s Witch Herstory Museum, Porter is again lurking in the background staring at Raelle and Scylla. Scylla then takes them to a more secluded spot to finally talk about her family’s background.

I don’t know what to think here. The plot of Scylla joining the Army as an undercover terrorist to avenge her parents’ deaths is being made super obvious. Almost too obvious. I feel like the show has something up its sleeve here. But that can be me looking for another story because Scylla telling Raelle she’ll take her with her if she feels the need to run away again is super cute and I don’t want her to be evil.

That night Porter comes by Scylla’s room wanting to talk to her. He is not convinced she changed at all since her anti-Army days and practically accuses her of being a hate-balloon terrorist.

Scylla insists she has changed and actually starts to kiss him. At this point my wife was like, “he’s dead.” And sure enough, Scylla whispers a spell into his ear.

The next day he jumps off a building right in front of poor Raelle. She tries to save him with her medic powers, but she is unable to.

Okay, I have to come to terms with evil girlfriend.

Station 19 – Season 3 Episode 11 “No Days Off” [Live]

Here’s my #Marina Station 19 report from last week’s episode:

  • Scene one: 1 minute
  • Scene two: 2 minutes
  • Scene three: 1 minute 20 seconds.

Wow, y’all. Maya and Carina’s vacation had a whole 4 minutes and 20 seconds of screentime!

First Maya calls into the station wanting work stuff and Travis shuts that down.

I’m so glad Maya followed Travis’ directions, but how does he know she has a “gorgeous Italian woman?” Does Maya talk about her? Does Carina drop by the station with more lasagne? Why can’t we see this?

Carina is able to drag Maya out to the pool and she lets herself enjoy being on vacation until a dude walks up wanting to buy them drinks.

I find the “straight guys harassing women they don’t know are queer” trope annoying, but it was really satisfying seeing Carina get so much pleasure out of watching Maya beat that dude in a pushup contest. I also loved how direct they were with them.

In the last scene of Maya and Carina’s vacation, they are about to get it on when they’re box-blocked by a text on Maya’s phone. Back at Station 19, a five-alarm fire is happening.

I’m sad Maya had a panic attack on her vacation, but Carina was so sweet bringing her out of it.

I am super attached to these two and enjoyed their vacation moments. Please, Shonda, protect them!
