On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, we learn more of Allison and Teddy’s backstory while Teddy is in a depressed fever dream state after Andrew Deluca’s death on Grey’s Anatomy.
- Grey’s Anatomy – Season 17 Episode 9 “In My Life” [Catch Up]
-
I had to catch up on 2 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and was surprised to discover Allison and Teddy were back from the dead!
Teddy is in a depression spiral after she was unable to save Andrew Deluca (Carina’s brother) when he landed on her operating table after being stabbed. At first it looks like it’s going to be an hour of Owen and Koracick (IMO, the two most boring characters on the show), but no, Allison is there too!
The “one thing you could have done differently” for Teddy is staying home the morning Allison offered to make her pancakes. They both went to work instead and Allison died in the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers.
Interspersed with Meredith/Andrew/Owen/Koracick dream sequences, we see glimpses into Teddy’s past with Allison.
She tells ghost DeLuca, Allison emotionally supported her through both of her parents’ deaths.
In case you didn’t see the first episode with Allison last season, she had a girlfriend named Claire, and they were roommates with Teddy. A classic queer drama situation.
Teddy keeps flashing back to the morning of 9/11 when she turned down Allison’s pancakes and interprets that as having killed her and draws a connection between that and “killing” DeLuca. Of course, she didn’t kill either of them, but those deaths are on the long list of things pulling her into a depression.
I love ghost DeLuca. Actually, I am loving all the ghosts Meredith has been visiting with on the beach. I am sucker for former characters making guest appearances.
In her dream state, Teddy gets her morning of 9/11 do-over and says yes to pancakes.
After pancakes they have coffee in the park, and as the attack happens, Teddy can’t protect Allison even in her dream state.
In the end, Ghost DeLuca forgives Teddy which I guess allows her to forgive herself enough to allow Sigur Rós to pull her back into reality.
That was quite a journey through Teddy’s mind! I just hope it doesn’t take her back to Owen.
