The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week – December 13, 2021

Queerest Things - Tiassa and Van

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, it’s an all-Marina-Having-Sex episode of Station 19 and Tiassa and Van finally make their relationship known to the audience on Yellowjackets.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
Q-Force – Season 1 [Streaming]

My kid watched Q-Force when it first came out and he thought I would like it. I finally finished it last weekend and I did indeed like it!

It’s sad most people’s reaction to the show (mine included) was, “I didn’t expect it to be good, but I liked it!” What is that about? Some internalized homophobia trapped in the corners of our brains making us assume any all-queer thing will be “too gay” and not funny?

It is very gay and clever and funny. There are so many out queer actors voicing the characters, chances are you’ll find a few of your faves. The inside jokes are so good.

I was hooked after they all yelled, “Carol!”

I give it a “Binge During Your Holiday Vacation” recommendation, however maybe not in front of all of your family members because it’s very NSFW.

Our Kind of People – Season 1 Episode 9 “Twice As Hard, Twice As Good”

I caught up on season one of Our Kind of People just in time to catch the Lauren / Taylor / Nikki triangle rotate once again at the end of the last episode.

I have honestly lost count of how many times Taylor has gone from Lauren to Nikki and back again.

Lauren and Taylor are going to go back to their fancy boarding school when Summer is over. Nikki is trying to find a scholarship so she can go too, but I don’t know how Angela is going to feel about that. We’ll see!

Station 19 – Season 5 Episode 7 “A House is Not a Home” [Live]

Welcome to the episode of Station 19 where Maya and Carina do nothing but have sex (and talk about babies here and there). I’m not complaining.

I’m serious, Maya even asks if they’re making homemade porn.

I guess Carina is trying to get all of the sex and romance in before a new baby arrives.

Later, they took a pause to count their blessings.

I feel like this is so much Marina content I don’t know how to handle it. Like, I’ve been raised on crumbs and now I’ve been given a whole meal and I don’t know what to do.

They take another break to eat dessert and discuss who will carry their baby.

We all knew it was going to be Carina.

Their last scene is playfully trolling Sperm Donor Profiles.

You know I’m not into queer trying to conceive stories, but if this show is going there, might as well aim for accuracy! So far so good.

Grey’s Anatomy – Season 18 Episode 7 “Today Was a Fairytale” [Live]

My slow burn tolerance is at most a few episodes. I don’t want to waste precious screentime on will-they/won’t-they drama, I want to get to the relationship part. But it’s a different story with Amelia and Kai. Their chemistry is so good, I am loving every minute of this slow burn.

In this episode, they are testing an experimental Parkinson’s treatment and using all that time in the lab together to get to know each other better. They talk about what got them into the profession, working with patients vs. working with test tubes and other medical stuff.

At the end, they leave the lab together and Kai asks Amelia out to dinner.

You know when the camera circles two characters like that they’re going to eventually hook up.

Not tonight, Kai, but I predict sometime soon.

Yellowjackets – Season 1 Episode 5 “Blood Hive”

I have a confession to make…I am not as into Yellowjackets as the rest of the Queer TV Fan Universe. I like it fine, but IMO it’s too much like The Wilds and I LOVE The Wilds. But then I was chatting with 2 friends from Autostraddle and they were like, “Who cares if it’s like The Wilds? We’ll take an airplane full of girls stranded anywhere — an island, the woods, the Moon…” Point taken.

In last night’s episode, Taissa and Van finally made clear what has been implied up until now. They are in a secret gay relationship.

Why do they have to wait until the entire soccer team is away from the cabin to get make out time? There is a whole woods out there to make out in! They need to start having hunting trips like Nat and Travis.

I’m not 100% sure where this show is taking us. We have an airplane crash and a conspiracy like The Wilds, but there is also an implied supernatural element. I think the supernatural stuff is just someone fucking with them but who is doing it? It can’t all be Misty. I think the show is trying to distract us with Misty (who is definitely manipulative and fucking with people) from someone more sinister.

I do love the 90s music nostalgia and Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis are so good together. I’ll keep watching!

Legacies – Season 4 Episode 8 “You Will Remember Me”

It’s Josie’s turn with the therapy box, and while her sister went to the Wild West for her session, Josie’s was the pilot episode of Grey’s Anatomy Legacies.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I wish it was a real show.

Through Josie’s Shondaland meets Nurses medical drama experience she has the ephiphamy that she sacrifices her own life too much for other people.

Legacies - Josie's therapy box session

I don’t know why she had to go into the box to figure that out. People have been telling her that for 3 1/2 seasons.

Still at Mikaelson Memorial Hospital, Josie cutely waits for EMT Finch outside.

That was so sweet and I love Finch in the EMT uniform.

I really hope Josie sticks with what she learned during her session and stops tossing Finch to the side to do family/school stuff.

This week: It’s the last week of regular TV before everyone takes a break for the holidays. I hope Jackie gets her shit together on Hightown, but that would be a holiday miracle.
