Hallmark has been very quietly pushing forward with more queer made-for-tv movies. Their latest involves Melora Hardin as Emilia – a romance novelist who returns home after a long absence to reconnect with her children, who also are finding their own paths to love.
One of her children? Well that’s why we’re here, aren’t we?
As Emilia tries to reconnect, Taylor and Zach explore new and past relationships through an app that boasts old-fashioned human connection by way of the classified ad. Zach is given a chance to heal old wounds while Taylor matches with Franki, a woman that changes the way she’s always thought about love.
The fact that they’re going with the classifieds is sort of a hat-tip to the fact that Hallmark is somewhat of an archaic anachronism. I’m not a huge Hallmark watcher, but I’ve always delighted in how they name some of their background characters:
- Height Difference Couple Man
- Height Difference Couple Woman
I’m somewhat interested to see what on earth that is important for.
Anyway. Taylor and Zach clearly fall into that old trope of “My parent is all about romance, so I must suck at it.” Zach running into his mother at a blind date is always awkward, and Taylor getting to change how she thought about love could go a few ways. The obvious one is “I didn’t know I was…!” and to be honest, I’m here for it.
Now before everyone gets super excited, Franki (with an I and no E) is considered one of the main characters, but the story is going to be on par with Every Time a Bell Rings more than Under the Christmas Tree. The main mains are not the queers, so don’t think this is going to be a game changer.
But what it is, is Hallmark’s fifth foray into queer lady love! In just 3 years we went from backdrops to co-leads. They even went all in with The Good Witch! So fingers crossed this means even more queers and queer centric movies in our future.
