Queerest Things - Kate and Lucy

On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, I did a few binge-watches including Harley Quinn and NCIS: Hawai’i so I could jump on board the Kate and Lucy ship.

Warning: This post contains spoilers!
NCIS: Hawaiʻi – Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot” [Binge-watch]

There were a bunch of folks in the LezWatch Slack all excited over Kacy – Kate and Lucy from NCIS: Hawai’i so I had to check it out.

I’ve never watched a NCIS show, and to be honest, I haven’t regularly watched a cop show since NYPD Blue ended in 2005. I checked out some of the Kate and Lucy edits on YouTube and saw what the fuss was about. Then I saw there was only 1 complete season so far and thought, “No problem, I can catch up.” I binged it all in a few days and was very impressed.

The Kate and Lucy story starts right in the pilot. I thought it would start later or there would be multiple episodes of flirty build up, but no, right in season 1 episode 1 we find out they’re hooked up before.

“We can’t do this AGAIN.” Okay!

Next I thought they’d be one of a few romantic stories and would not get a ton of screen time. I was wrong! They are THE primary couple on the show and their relationship is addressed in the majority of episodes. All of the characters are rooting for them to work out which is really cute.

I feel like the show creators put this couple together with an ingredients list of everything wlw fans love: Height Difference, Blonde/Brunette, Grumpy/Cheerful and queer women with guns. That last one may just be a me thing.

A bonus is the show and actors also being Kacy shippers!

The first season is a relationship arc with ups and downs ending with a big romantic gesture. It has everything we’d want in 22 episodes. So far in season two they’ve been kick ass crime-fighting girlfriends. Quality queer content.

If you can stand watching a cop show, I would highly recommend joining team Kate and Lucy with me.

Harley Quinn – Season 3 Episode 3 “The 83rd Annual Villy Awards” [Binge-watch]

Another show folks have been excited for is Harley Quinn. I hadn’t watched it because I am not familiar with her universe and I was afraid I’d be lost. However, I can’t handle wlw FOMO, so I started it up from the beginning, and OMG, I LOVED it.

It’s really funny — It reminds me of the adult animated humor in Q-FORCE. I was not lost at all, having watched Batwoman and the DC shows on the CW, I was familiar enough with Gotham City to understand what was going on.

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are the crime girlfriends I’ve always wanted. They are super into each other and talk through any relationship issues. It’s hard to find that on a live action series.

I love it.

The show got renewed for a season 4, a Valentine’s Day Special and the show runners say they will never break up.

FOMO averted and I’m totally on board.

This week: My wife and I are allowing ourselves one Derry Girls episode a day to prolong watching the final season. Also, the Bad Sisters finale is this Friday!
