On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, I start the eleventh and final season of Shameless with Debbie and Sandy and try not to complain about Marina screen time on Station 19.

- Shameless – Season 11 Episode 1 “This is Chicago!” [Catch-up]
-
We’ve made it to the 57th and final season of Shameless. It’s actually the 11th but it feels like more.
I was one of the people getting yelled at by Frank in the “previously on” recap because I forgot everything from the last season except for Ian and Mickey’s wedding. He reminded me the season finale ended with Debbie running from the cops who showed up at the Gallagher house to arrest her for statutory rape. Debbie was sleeping with an older woman and her teenage daughter, Julia. It was consensual, and Julia is less than a year younger than Debbie, but she wanted to get back at her so she called the cops.
I guess the cops caught her, because this season she has an ankle monitor on her leg. It also looks like Sandy moved into the Gallagher house and Debbie and Sandy are girlfriends now.
Debbie is trying to get her handyperson business off the ground and gave it the unfortunate name, “Debbie Does Everything.”
Things are off to a rocky start only made worse by Debbie discovering her profile on the sex offender website. The site had Julia down as being 7, not 17 so now people are going to think she’s a monster. Sandy does notice her mugshot pic is hot though.
Sandy is proactive and creates an Instagram account @DebbieHotLesbianConvict to promote her business.
Sandy made lemonade out of Debbie’s mugshot and gave her business a boost. Now there’s only one useless gay Milkovich living in the Gallagher house.
She also turned the whole thing into something else.
“I’m only seven.” Oh, Shameless, you never run out of new and creepy things to say.
I like Debbie and Sandy being a thing. I feel like Debbie has been bouncing around for years romantically and another gay Milkovich in the house feels like a good fit.
- Station 19 – Season 4 Episode 4 “Don’t Look Back in Anger” [Live]
-
I created a thread of Maya and Carina’s entire relationship on Twitter for the Internet’s viewing pleasure and realized I complain about the lack of Marina screen time A LOT. It’s really repetitive and boring and I am going to try to do better…after complaining this one last time!
I thought Carina getting upped to series regular meant she would have a bigger part on the show, but instead we’re getting the screen time sandwich – a minute or so at the beginning of an episode and another at the end. In the middle, Maya spends more time talking to Andy about her relationship than she does being in her relationship with Carina!
Okay I got that out of my system, I will find new and insightful Marina things to talk about.
It’s morning in the Bishop/DeLuca/Herrera household and Carina has turned the kitchen into an Italian specialty market. That sounds like heaven to me, but Andy and Maya are being all weird about it.
Oh my gosh, Maya choked out that, “I love you.” like she practiced it 10 time in the mirror first.
Later, Maya is power-lifting hoses and processing her relationship issues with Andy.
Omg can we please have one Honeymoon period episode before going right into issues?
I do understand where Maya is coming from. I have my own battles with not repeating parent behavior when it comes to my wife and kid. It’s hard and I fight it every day. But I agree with Andy, being conscious of it puts you miles ahead of the person you’re trying not to be (who mostly likely never admitted to or took responsibility for their behavior). You have to go all-in and try to be better. You can’t work on it by not going home and avoiding your person.
Maya eventually does go home and I was scared it was going to be a bad scene.
At first I was scared it was going to turn into a big fight over cheese, but it transitioned to cute in the end.
This show is going to kill me.
This week: It’s the Station 19/Grey’s mid-season finale this Thursday. We won’t get another episode for months so I hope it’s good!
