The News
In July, we got Degrassi: Next Class, the noise of an L Word sequel, the new Doctor is a woman, and the Wynonna Earp renewal.
Whew. That’s a lot, isn’t it?
The Doctor being a woman meant we had to add her to the site, since she’s married to River Song and already known to be queer. Of course, it brought up the age old question of ‘what is death?’ since technically the Doctor regenerates when they die… So are they ever really dead or not?
I got to talk about the site at the inaugural WordCamp DC, discussing how the site was built, why we used WordPress to power it and more. It’s nice to get to talk about passions and advocacy and how you make it all happen.
Sad News
I was supposed to go to a taping of One Day At A Time last month, but that didn’t happen due to overbooking. Basically too many people had tickets to shows, and we got bumped. If all works out, I’ll get to go in August, so fingers crossed!
Site News
Tracy and I spent some time in DC (where we were for work) going over our to-do lists for the site, and now we have a Trello board where we keep track of everything. It’s like we’re adults or something. Tracy’s taken charge of working on a new theme, but as that goes on, I’m streamlining the code to try to make it run faster no matter what theme we pick.
This also came with the enhancement of our Trigger Warnings. Instead of a binary on/off, there are now levels:
- WARNING! This show contains scenes of explicit violence, drug use, suicide, sex, and/or abuse.
- CAUTION! This show regularly discusses and sometimes depicts “strong content” like violence and abuse.
- NOTICE! While generally acceptable for the over 14 crowd, this show may hit some sensitive topics now and then.
We’ll have to go back through all the shows to flag them properly (and the Degrassi franchise may be getting a notice…) but the goal here is to make sure we warn people before they read details. While our show pages may be free of such topics in our reviews, people should know what they’re getting into.
Traffic on the site is consistently up, which I hope means you’re enjoying the content and the blog posts!
Ads No More
You may have noticed the Google ads vanished. This happened after a complaint (by Google) about the content of How To Not. There is some question as to if this complaint is about the content or the image, but my bet is on the image. Since there isn’t a safe way to know if the rest of the site content is ‘acceptable,’ we pulled all of them.
Currently all ‘ads’ are affiliate links, and we’re checking out possible alternatives. If you know of an LGBT friendly ad service that would be copacetic with our content, please let us know. Leave a comment or email me at mika [at] lezwatchtv.com
