Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, HomeCon has released guests for their second virtual convention!
HomeCon
Alright, let’s start with the extremely exciting news of another virtual con. The first version of HomeCon was a major success and it felt so good to connect with actors, creators, and fans from all over the world, especially after all our in-person cons were cancelled. Lucky for us, the HomeCon team is bringing us another convention on May 16-17!
Panels include our favorite stars from Orphan Black (Tatiana Maslany), The 100 (Jessica Harmon), Dark Matter (Zoie Palmer, Melissa O’Neil), and Wynonna Earp (Kat Barrell). Make sure to clear your schedules for that weekend! (Also, if you are surprised about how casually I just dropped that Orphan Black information, I am too! It will be the highlight of my month!)
Batwoman
If you ever need a quick brain break, there’s always Meagan Tandy‘s instagram page…
Betty
Y’ALL!!!!!! Do you know about the new show, Betty, on HBO? Because, if not, you should! It’s a spin-off of the movie Skate Kitchen, which features the all-women NYC skateboard group by the same name. I love the entire concept of the show and, if you loved the movie, you will definitely love the first episode of the new show. Here’s two of the stars talking about it!
Broke
Broke was one of a few shows with cancellation announcements this week.
Carmilla
So this doesn’t actually have anything to do with Carmilla but both Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman are involved so I needed to get your attention. This week, Gaby Dunn organized another virtual queer script reading for us all to join at home. It was AMAZING. It also included Stephanie Beatriz, Jen Richards, Jes Tom, Alexis G Zall, and Brian Michael Smith. Aka A LOT OF PEOPLE WE LOVE! You can catch the whole thing on her Youtube channel.

Motherland: Fort Salem
I’m not even going to comment on the fact that I haven’t watched this show yet. Instead, I’ll just drop more of the perfect content that I have been consuming on Twitter:
Runaways
I miss Runaways. And Ariela Barer.
Tommy
Tommy was cancelled which is particularly heartbreaking considering the main character was an out lesbian…
And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
When is HomeCon and how do I participate in this amazing gathering?
