Queer Beats – September 4, 2020

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Juliantina returned, Star Trek: Discovery announced two new queer characters, and Batwoman started filming again!

Amar A Muerte

I may not be in the Juliantina fandom (yet) but even I know a fandom-rocking video when I see one:

Batwoman

New writer alert! Maya Houston (who is queer) has joined the Batwoman writing staff!

In additional good news, Batwoman just started filming season two and I am VERY EXCITED!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine announced that we will have to wait until next year for new episodes. Earlier this year, the show announced that they would be re-writing any previously written episodes in light of the continued Black Lives Matter movement. Hopefully, this extra long wait will result in meaningfully written episodes!

Her Story

Jen Richards and her fiancé continue to be extremely cute:

Jane the Virgin

#Luimelia

The extra #Luimelia content literally doesn’t stop coming! This week’s episode featured a (very meta) documentary created by Luisita, where she gets to interview her favorite wlw ship from her favorite telenovela (I told you, it’s meta). You can view the full documentary at www.lureliawikifans.com.

The Mindy Project

Niecy Nash (now Niecy Betts) announced that she just got married and the photos are beautiful!

Passage

Nicole Pacent is pregnant! That baby will definitely be surrounded by lots of love!

Pretty Little Liars

Apparently, there’s a PLL reboot in the works from the creator of Riverdale. It would be with completely new characters and absolutely no one asked for this, so all I can say is that it better have good queer content!

Star Trek: Discovery

I know almost nothing about Star Trek but I literally screamed when I saw this announcement:

Wynonna Earp

Kat Barrell and Dominique Provost-Chalkley talked with GLAAD about WayHaught and how it has affected the discovery of their own queer identities:

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.

About NikkiT

Nikki is an archivist by day, queer TV addict by night. Her first dive into fan content was when she ran a secret Xanga blog dedicated to pictures of Lorelai Gilmore in the 7th grade. She has never looked back.
