Also Ran

While we have no idea if True Detective will be queer or not, Jodie Foster will be in the upcoming season so for queers of a certain age, you’ll want to dial in on January 14 (HBO).

The live action Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming out (before you mention the movie, I would like to remind you there is no Avatar live-action movie in Ba Sing Se) and while it’s not queer in and of itself, Kyoshi was very much so in the books. My fingers are crossed they bring that aspect in on February 22 (Netflix).

The Good Fight/Wife spinoff, Elsbeth, is coming too! You remember her? The absolutely bonkers lawyer? I know that’s saying a lot. Anyway, her series is set in New York, not Chicago, and it’ll be out on February 29 (CBS). There’s something hilariously right about her series premiering on Leap Day.

Finally for those of you who love watching Dick Wolf, Law & Orders all return on January 18th, and the Chicago series is back on January 17th, both on NBC.

Cancelations

I wanted to touch on the rampant cancelations.

This was, sadly, something expected. A lot of good shows are costly, and the strikes were a ‘great’ excuse to dangle and cancel. Hightown and Station 19 are on their final seasons. The Rookie: Feds was actually working on things prior to the strike, but now ABC won’t continue with it, and right now Amazon Prime is claiming that A League of Their Own was canceled because of the strike. Sure.

There will likely be a few more shows “reverse renewed” (read ‘canceled after being renewed’) down the road.

Hopefully we’re going to start getting practical, interesting, details on the upcoming new shows soon.

About Mika A. Epstein

Mika has been deep in fandom since she could say 'Trekkie.' With decades experience in running fansites, developing software, and organizing communities, she's taken on the challenge of delving into the recesses of television for queers long forgotten. Making this site with Tracy is nothing short of serendipity. Mika lives with her wife in Southern California. Of course she has a hybrid, but she'd rather ride her bicycle.
