Queer Beats – July 19, 2019

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, SDCC finally started, Legends of Tomorrow began filming again, and Kat Barrell graced the cover of Diva Magazine.

Batwoman

San Diego Comic Con is officially underway and one of the major stars this year is Batwoman! Her face has been spotted everywhere, from street signs to hotel keys to this elevator:

Unfortunately, Ruby Rose made the announcement that she will not be able to attend due to filming conflicts with the show.

This week, Entertainment Weekly also released an issue featuring all our favorite Arrowverse superheroes and cover options included our two favorite queer fighters:

I don’t know about you, but I’m still not over the fact that the CW is just pasting giant pictures of an out lesbian superhero all over the biggest comic convention in the world. Pretty cool!

The Good Fight

I won’t spoil this for you, but if you are a Good Fight fan, you may want to read this:

Killing Eve

As I’m sure many of you have heard, both Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh were nominated for Emmys for their work on Killing Eve. I’m very excited about this so here’s a cute celebration picture:

Legends of Tomorrow

Caity Lotz has had a big week! First, she graced the cover of Entertainment Weekly and got to punch through some glass:

EW also released a full behind-the-scenes video, including interviews with both Caity and Ruby Rose.

You can read the full article here. Caity shares some insight into Sara’s new superpower and how it may affect her relationship with Ava.

Also, Legends started filming again this week! Which means Caity is blessing us with all sorts of good Avalance content!

Marvel’s Runaways

Clexacon announced that both Ariela and Lyrica will be returning to the convention next year.

Orange is the New Black

Here’s another reminder that the final season of OitNB will be released this month:

Paper Girls

Paper Girls, a graphic novel that includes queer characters, was picked up by Amazon to be turned into a series:

Steven Universe

The Steven Universe Karaoke Party at San Diego Comic Con is up and running and suddenly Made of Jealousy.

Wynonna Earp

This week, Kat Barrell graced the cover of DIVA Magazine, a European magazine for queer women.

In the article, Kat reveals that she is attracted to men and women.

Kat’s interview definitely made me pause to think about how grateful I am that she was cast as Nicole Haught and has made such an effort to connect with fans. As with anyone, Kat didn’t have to reveal this side of herself, but she chose to because she knows it will mean something to her queer fans. Thanks, Kat!

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random. Make sure to keep an eye out for future SDCC updates from Mika!
