Queer Beats – August 21, 2020

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, we say goodbye to Luimelia on Amar Es Para Siempre and Choni get ready to “reign supreme” next season.

All Rise

There is some drama happening behind-the-scenes of All Rise. Many writers have left the series due to a negative culture regarding race in the show and in the writers’ room.

Amar Es Para Siempre

Paula Usero and Carol Rovira (aka Luisita and Amelia) left Amar Es Para Siempre this week. It’s very sad but thankfully we still have the #Luimelia spin-off to look forwards to.

Meanwhile, in #Luimelia world, we keep getting blessed with extra BTS content:

Also, I think we all deserve this treat of Paula being asked “On a scale from 1-10, how would you rate Carol’s kissing?” and Paula responds with a quick “TEN”!

Carmilla

Carmilla fans are in for a treat! Natasha and Elise will be doing a reading of the entire original Carmilla book over the next couple weeks.

DC Fandome

So, DC Fandome, which was supposed to be a 24-hour event happening tomorrow, has suddenly shifted gears and now will be spread over two days. Everything relevant to this website (aka queer TV) will now be on September 12.

Riverdale

The creator of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, posted this sneak peek of Choni at prom and promised that they will “reign supreme” in the next season:

Supergirl

Azie Tesfai spoke up about her Supergirl character, Kelly Olsen.

Vida

Missing Vida like the rest of us? Good news! Creator Tanya Saracho signed an overall deal that will allow her to create more Latinx and (assuming, with her history) queer content!

Warrior Nun

Warrior Nun was picked up for a second season by Netflix!

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
