On this chapter of The Queerest Things I Watched Last Week, Petra and JR finally get together, and it’s not a dream! Also Sara and Ava work on their nonverbal communication skills, and there’s trouble in the house of Hen and Ren, and more!
- Legends of Tomorrow – Season 3 Episode 13 “No Country for Old Dads” [Live]
My wish came true — we got to see Ava the next morning on the Waverider.
Ava waking up on the Waverider. "Hey, Ava. You look great in what you were wearing yesterday." #AvaLance #LegendsOfTomorrow pic.twitter.com/atKkNvLOWO

I love Zari in this scene; she is so funny.
The three of them learn Ray has been taken hostage by Damien and Nora Darhrk, but they don’t know where he is.
Later, Rip and Kid Flash show up on the ship, and Rip asks Ava what she is doing there.
It’s obvious Ava doesn’t want to talk about her and Sara’s relationship in front of Rip. Why is that?
Rip finds out anyway when he walks in on Sara and Ava having a discussion about their nonverbal communication skills.
"At least our nonverbal communication skills are off to a good start." #AvaLance #LegendsOfTomorrow pic.twitter.com/oncK8WCJhk

Later after Ray is safe and back on the ship, Ava has a call with Time Bureau Director Bennett, and during the call, he is killed by Gorilla Grodd. While Ava stands in shock, Rip informs her that she is now in the highest position of command, making her Time Bureau Director. He then asks her for his old job back.
Ava and Rip say their goodbyes and head back to the Time Bureau.

Well, there’s a bombshell. What’s in file 354-Z? What is “the truth about Ava?” And why did Gideon call Rip “Director Hunter?”
It’s been fun seeing theories fly around the Twitter machine. My thought is: what about Ava would be so upsetting to Sara that she couldn’t find out about it? I think it would need to be something about her sister, Laurel, but I don’t know what it could be. Whatever it is, it’ll follow the usual “hide something from someone to protect them” Arrowverse plot. They have done this story times a million on all their shows.
- The Fosters – Season 5 Episode 17 “Makeover” [Live]
Well, one good thing happened on the show last week, Aaron made an appearance. I’m so annoyed at Callie for not getting back together with him.
What did you expect, Callie? Did you want Aaron waiting around for you while you insert yourself into everyone else’s problems?
Wow, y’all. Last week was pretty dismal for the Stef and Lena Passion Index. We had:
And that’s it. Not even a handshake. For that reason I give them ZERO sad sponges.
They’re gonna need that couples retreat to give their relationship some CPR.
- Black Lightning Season 1 Episode 7 “Equinox: The Book of Fate” [Live]
Mama Lightning tells Anissa she needs to go on a date, so she gives Grace a call at the end of the episode.
I miss you too, Grace. That message was very cute. I hope we see her this week.
- The Chi – Season 1 Episode 8 “Wallets” [Catch Up]
Kevin’s moms send him on a grocery run, and while he’s doing that, his friends ask him about having two moms.
I really loved this conversation, and it gave us some backstory into Nina and Karen.
- 9-1-1 – Season 1 Episode 8 “Karma’s a Bitch” [Live]
Did I miss that every 9-1-1 episode has a theme? Last week’s was the full moon and this week it was Karma. I didn’t notice a theme in other episodes, but maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention.
On this episode one karmedic thing happens after another. Each time it happens Hen makes a different “Karma is a [fill in the blank]” statement. However, we all know Karma is coming for her after cheating on her wife last episode.
Hen comes home intending to tell Karen what she did. My wife and I were on the edge of our seats waiting to see how Ren would react. But then this happened instead.
Wow, this scene on this week's #911onFOX was intense @traciethoms & @AishaHinds bringing the #HenAndRen drama. I hope they work it out, even with a bump in the relationship road I'm sure they're a more stable home then Hen's ex. Loving this story. -T pic.twitter.com/nELiTDa4Yr

Oh my goodness! Poor Karen; what a way to find out. I do hope they work it out. Even with a bump in the relationship road, I’m sure they’re a more stable home then Hen’s ex.
- Life Sentence – Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot” [Live]
Aria from Pretty Little Liars is on a new CW show. It’s a different take on the devastating illness genre. Aria (her actual name’s Stella on the show) has a terminal cancer diagnosis and lives her life as if she could die soon. Then surprise, she’s cured, and further surprise, her family has been hiding all their dark secrets from her. Now that she’s going to live a long life, the facade her family has built comes crumbling down. Like the fact that her parents are breaking up.
In addition to dealing with her parents split, she walks in on this.
This could play out entertainingly, we’ll see how it goes.
- Riverdale – Season 2 Episode 14 “Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Hills Have Eyes” [Live]
While Bughead and Varchie go on a ill-fated couples trip together, the other folks in Riverdale go to see Love, Simon. The movie brought up some serious feelings for Cheryl, and she makes a confession to Toni Topaz the town bisexual.
Cheryl coming out to Toni on #Riverdale s2 e14. I liked how they used them seeing #LoveSimon as a catalyst for Cheryl coming out. #RepresentationMatters -T pic.twitter.com/WvwtyTood0

I’m not 100% in love with Rivedale, but I did like and appreciate this scene. Also, even though it was blatant cross-promotional marketing, I did love how seeing Love, Simon was the catalyst for Cheryl to come out to Toni. Representation matters, yo.
- Grey’s Anatomy – Season 14 Episode 14 “Games People Play” [Live]
I’m sure you’ve heard the sad news by now that Arizona and April’s characters are not going to be on Grey’s past this season. They announced this on International Women’s Day which was an ironic bummer.
Arizona is one of the longest running lesbian characters on mainstream, network TV. Even though her stories and screen time have been up and down, losing her is a real disappointment. I really hope there will be queer main characters on the spinoff show Station 19 and the new legal drama coming up soon, For the People.
Anyway, it looks like they’re already giving her the fadeaway, because Arizona and Carina didn’t get much screen time on this episode. They worked on their project a little bit and then did this in the middle of the episode.
And then we didn’t see them again. It’s not like thousands of queer fans wouldn’t have loved to see the “something else” Carina had in mind.
- Jane
the Virginand Rafael – Season 4 Episode 12 “Chapter Seventy-Six” [Live]This show, y’all! It is one of my favorite queer things happening on TV right now.
JR and Petra are working together to discover who JR’s blackmailer is. JR gets in her car to discover a new burner phone. The person on the other end of the phone texts JR to meet them alone and gives her an address. JR agrees to go there alone and doesn’t tell Petra about it.
When JR shows up at the location, Petra soon runs up saying she can’t trust her. Suddenly, JR plants a real, non-dream kiss on her.
Back in the car, Petra explains she was the one who planted the new burner. It seems Petra was still having trust issues. She had to see if JR would tell her if the blackmailer contacted her again. JR said she didn’t tell her because Petra had been stressed out lately, and she didn’t want her to mess things up. Either way, JR says she’s been followed all day and has to act as if she seduced Petra to throw them off.
After getting a text from JR’s mom they go visit her. There they get a text from the blackmailer asking what was up with the kiss. Petra is concerned they won’t buy the seduction thing, however JR’s not worried about it.
Back at the Marbella, Petra is cute and happy texting with JR, and Jane wants to know who she’s giggling over.
At the end of the night, JR and Petra are working on figuring out who the blackmailer is, and Petra asks her if she needs to stay over. You know, to sell the whole “you seduced me” scenario.
The big moment finally happened! The scene where JR and Petra finally get together (and it wasn't a dream) on this week's @CWJaneTheVirgin 👏🏽 Thank you, @JaneWriters for these two. ❤️ -T #JaneTheVirgin #petramos #Jetra2.0 pic.twitter.com/zZ6sK7JxfF
— LezWatchTV 📺🏳️🌈 (@lezwatchtv) March 10, 2018
It finally happened! Petra and JR slept together, and it wasn’t a dream. Petra’s “That wouldn’t be the first line you’ve crossed” and JR shooting looks with that smile are killing me. Petra and JR have fantastic chemistry and Yael Grobglas and Rosario Dawson are doing an amazing job.
- The Good Fight – Season 2 Episode 2 “Day 415” [Streaming]
This episode was so stressful. It was Maia’s trial, and I knew from the trailer Amy would be taking the stand. The scene was intense and heartbreaking.
Amy says she asked Maia if there was something wrong with her father’s fund. Colin asks her if she answered. She said no, she didn’t say anything, but she nodded. Maia writes “untrue” down on paper and shows it to Lucca. Then Colin asks Amy if she and Maia talked about marriage. She looks surprised by the question, but then answers yes. Colin wants to know who proposed (it was Maia) and if she proposed after the indictment (yes she did). This brings into question if Maia wanted to marry Amy so Amy wouldn’t have to testify against her. Colin brings up the fact that Amy said no to Maia’s proposal, and he wants to know why.
Ugh, this whole thing was so sad, including when Maia came home to their apartment that night. Amy says she’s sorry, but she was under oath. They argue a little bit about if Maia nodded or not, but in the end Maia turns over and stays silent.
I think they’re over, which is really sad. I really loved them as a matter-of-fact queer couple.
By the end of the episode, Maia’s dad is caught and her and her mom are off the hook. We’ll see what happens to Maia now that she doesn’t have this issue looming over her and she can just be a lawyer.
That was a lot, and there is more to come! Brooklyn Nine-Nine comes back soon, and the wife and I are watching Jessica Jones along with all our regularly scheduled queer shows. I will be very busy writing it all up for you all.
