Happy New Year’s and welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Batwoman received some good news, Nikohl Boosheri spoke about Adena’s hijab, and Laura Prepon reminded us all what we miss most about Orange is the New Black.
American Horror Story
Let’s start things off on a good, holiday-themed note! Sarah Paulson celebrated New Years with her partner, Holland Taylor, and they looked mighty cute doing it!
Batwoman
We got some GREAT Batwoman news this week: the show was officially picked up to shoot a pilot episode! Which means we are one step closer to having a full-blown Batwoman show! This is a really great sign for the possibility of a future that includes Batwoman. I hope all goes well and I will be sure to keep you all up-to-date with any Ruby Rose behind-the-scenes content!
The Bold Type
Have I talked about how much I miss Kadena lately? Because I really miss them. Thankfully, we got a rare Nikohl Boosheri interview where she talks about Adena. She had some really insightful thoughts about why Adena chooses to wear her hijab only some of the time:
I remembered I shot a film in Beirut, and thereโs actually quite a vibrant LGBTQ scene underground there. I met with women who had tattoos and wore hijabs sometimes but not all the time. In Beirut, itโs also not mandatory to wear the hijab. And so I thought, โOkay, then with this character, it has to be more about her freedom to choose, her freedom to express herself how she pleases and how she pleases that day.’
Legends of Tomorrow
Need a LoT fix? I’ve got you covered. Please enjoy Caity doing some backflips in the ocean:
Orange is the New Black
We still have a long time to wait for the seventh (and final) season of OITNB, but luckily Laura Prepon decided to bless us with an Alex sighting this week:
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists
TVLine gave us a first look at Alison DiLaurentis in the upcoming Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists and it looks like she’s a professor!

Thatโs it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
