Queer Beats – October 11, 2020

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Netflix made 2020 worse by cancelling Teenage Bounty Hunters and GLOW, but at least we still have Sarah Paulson.

Dickinson

AppleTV announced a season 2 premiere date for Dickinson, dropped a new trailer, and renewed it for a season 3!

GLOW

Yet another thing to write in our Netflix burn book: GLOW was cancelled despite already being picked up for a final season. Here are Sunita Mani and Shakira Barrera‘s reflections on what the series meant to them:

💔💔💔💔💔💔 I am saddened by @netflix decision to not complete Season 4 of GLOW. We are gutted that you beautiful fans won’t get to see the ending but just know, it would have been everything you wanted to see from us. We are hoping that, by some miracle, we get a movie to finish it off. (STAY TUNED FOR POSSIBLE PLAN OF ACTION #SAVEGLOW). But for now, this is the end. To Liz, Carly, Jenji, and execs: thank you for taking that chance on me and making me Yolanda. Thank you for writing for me and being a true ally in the fight for representation on screen. To Liz & Seth: thank you for giving me the chance to audition for you. You have both changed my career forever. To Chavo, Shauna & Helena: i have been dancing for 25 years and have not ever been so challenged by your moves. I thank you for my bulged disk. No, but seriously, thank you for always believing in me and pushing me past what I thought were my limits. To the crew: thank you for putting up with 15 women at a time. I’m also sorry we were such pains in the ass but we couldn’t have made this without you. To the cast: you are my sisters forever. Thank you for opening your arms to me in ways I only could have dreamed of. We have cried, laughed, farted, wrestled, and snorted all over each other. I couldn’t have been Yolanda without your support sisters and I am in love and obsessed with you all SO MUCH. And to YOLANDA: 🥺🥺 You were the fucking BEST. A stripper, breakdancer, LGBTQ girl of my dreams!!!!! The baddest to ever do it! You gave me confidence that I never knew I had and challenged me physically, emotionally, and mentally!!! I love you FOREVER. THANKS FOR WATCHING US WEIRDOS AND OUR TV SHOW!!! WE LOVE YOU ALL ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

#Luimelia

#Luimelia season 2 may be over but ATRESplayer dropped the “Making Of” behind-the-scenes video and it is very good.

Lumberjanes

Attention She-Ra fans: Noelle Stevenson’s comic series, Lumberjanes, is officially in development as a TV show at HBO Max.

Malhação

This is me officially coming out as a Limantha fan! I recently watched this couple’s scenes just in time for the upcoming series, As Five, which will feature the same main characters from this season of the show.

Motherland: Fort Salem

While we wait for MFH to continue filming the much anticipated second season, you can get your dose of Taylor Hickson with this new interview!

Ratched

Sarah Paulson truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Watch here as she talks about some of her iconic wigs!

Teenage Bounty Hunters

Not only did Netflix cancel GLOW this week, but they also cancelled Teenage Bounty Hunters, a show that quickly gained popularity within the queer community.

Wynonna Earp

Creator Emily Andras, Kat Barrell, and Dominique Provost-Chalkley got together to discuss the show’s queer legacy:

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.

About NikkiT

Nikki is an archivist by day, queer TV addict by night. Her first dive into fan content was when she ran a secret Xanga blog dedicated to pictures of Lorelai Gilmore in the 7th grade. She has never looked back.
