Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! I was traveling internationally last week so this post will include two weeks of queer TV content! This week on Queer Beats, we watched the first Batwoman trailer, many of our favorite shows got picked up for a new season, and the new Vida season dropped!
Atypical
As I am anxiously awaiting the return of Atypical and the Casey/Izzie slow burn, I am thoroughly enjoying the Instagram banter between Brigette and Fivel.
Batwoman
Can you believe that we are just going to be getting new Batwoman content from here on out? Last week, the CW released the first official trailer and it has me pretty hyped up.
Ruby Rose also had the chance to talk about Kate Kane’s backstory.
The Bold Type
The Bold Type women received a little announcement during their Upfronts presentation this week… A SEASON 3 PICKUP!
Charmed
Charmed is officially coming to Netflix this week which is great news for us slackers who fell too far behind and lost out on watching the show on the CW app…
Easy
If anyone follows me on social media, you know that I am a huge Sophia Bush fan (I blame One Tree Hill). If you are also a fan, you’re in luck because she is featured in the queer women episode of Easy in the new season! Check it out on Netflix now!
Gentleman Jack
For all of you who have been loving this queer historical drama, you will be happy to know that it got picked up for a season 2!
Killing Eve
I have been waiting very patiently for Jodie Comer to win an award for Villanelle and my patience has finally been rewarded! Yay Jodie!
Also, while we are on this topic, Amy Acker and Kat Barrell had a real cute online interaction about Killing Eve this week:
And we were also blessed with a selfie of these two! I miss seeing them on my screen.
The L Word: Generation Q
The L Word reboot got an official title this week and… not many people are excited about it. What do you think?
Mrs. America
More of our favorite actresses, including Sarah Paulson, have been announced as part of the cast for FX’s Mrs. America, a limited series starring Cate Blanchett. This series will revolve around Phyllis Schlafly’s push against the Equal Rights Amendment in the 70s. Although most of Schlafly’s work focused on equality for women, she was also openly homophobic so I hope this means we might get some queer characters to fight her!
Orange is the New Black
The newest (and final) season of OiTNB is coming on July 26!
Supergirl
Us Sanvers fans had our yearly nostalgia fest this weekend with the Ultimates convention where much of the Supergirl cast (including Chyler and Floriana) got together to talk all things Supergirl. Although I try to keep Sanvers in the past and support Alex’s future (aka it’s too painful to think about Sanvers on a regular basis), it’s always fun to get new pictures and hear our faves talk about Alex and Maggie again!
Prompted by an audience question, Chyler also had a lot to say about the reason she stopped engaging on social media. Online bullying is definitely a pervasive problem across fandoms and I think her speech is an important read! We should all just be nice to each other!
Tales of the City
If you weren’t already excited about this Tales of the City remake, you should be now! Jen Richards has joined the cast as a young Anna Madrigal! (No spoilers for those who do not know the storyline yet).
Vida
One of LWTV’s favorite shows is back this week: Vida! Team LezWatchTV is all obsessed with this show and it is our personal mission to get as many new viewers as possible! The entire season was released on Starz so start binging if you haven’t already!
If that video wasn’t convincing enough, I would like to point out that Roberta Colindrez joined the cast this season so… you should definitely watch.
Whiskey Cavalier
This week, Whiskey Cavalier was cancelled by ABC….
But now, in a twist of events, it might be un-cancelled? Stay tuned if you were a fan of this show!
And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
