Queer Beats – November 22, 2019

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Fivel Stewart blessed us with a breakdown of that kiss, Cable Girls and Runaways announced their final seasons, and the Arrowverse Crossover released new trailers.

Almost Family

I continue to fall deeper and deeper in love with Amandie with every passing week. That couple has truly rearranged my molecules this TV season. So bless Victoria Cartagena‘s heart for constantly posting the cutest behind-the-scenes pictures from set:

Atypical

I’m sure I’m not alone in the fact that I’ve watch Cazzie’s first kiss approximately 100 times since the latest season aired. Although that scene will never get old, Fivel‘s behind-the-scenes take made it even better:

Meanwhile, Fivel and Brigette continue to hang out and post cute pictures of one another:

Arrow

I know it’s shocking that I am posting about Arrow. I don’t watch the show. No queer characters have been added to the show since Sara Lance. In fact, what I’m about to share isn’t even technically queer. But, you know what, sometimes good things just fall into our queer laps and we have to celebrate them! So welcome to the video that I watched most this week!

Batwoman

This week’s Batwoman episode was heavy. Kate and Sophie explored their past we finally got a look into Sophie’s side of things. Showrunner Caroline Dries and Meagan Tandy spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about this episode:

Meagan has been very vocal about Sophie’s story and support for those who have gone through a similar journey.

To all the Sophie’s out there who simply just wanted to serve our country but were faced with a choice : Stay or Go- simply based off of whom they love and how they love …it’s a shame that would have anything to do with your love for your country and your ability to get the job done. • To all of the black #LGBTQ men and women who were faced with that “choice” (Stay or Go) but sadly didn’t really HAVE that privilege of REALLY being able to choose based off their background and opportunities that simply just weren’t there…my heart goes out to you. Being a black woman myself , of course I get it…we have different obstacles in life don’t we ? Which literally effects our daily choices-whom we love has nothing to do with that very fact. We never mean to hurt anyone else as a result of the choices we are sometimes forced to make so that we too can survive but I hope people will keep an empathetic ear to those who have been marginalized and understand that WETHEY are hurt too: by our system , these sad and selfish laws/rules, society oftentimes, our history. • I’m not the messiah on this topic but when it comes to love, understanding , acceptance…I will always always ALWAYS stand on that side because it’s what we need more of. My heart goes out to Sophie Moore and all the men and women who are just like her . It truly is an honor to play this character on television and I will represent you on this show as proudly and boldly as I possibly can 👊🏽💪🏽🇺🇸 #batwoman #cw #military #dontaskdonttell #dadt #sophiemoore #blackwomen #blackwomeninmilitary

TV Guide also hung out with Meagan and posted pretty pictures so check them all out on their instagram page:

Cable Girls

Cable Girls will be back next year but, sadly, for one last season:

Good Trouble

Good Trouble/The Fosters fans are in for A TREAT this holiday season!

Hitmen

I wish I could accurately describe how excited I am for this Mel and Sue led sitcom:

The L Word: Generation Q

The original L Word women graced the cover of The Advocate magazine this month:

And we got yet another trailer for the upcoming show:

Mr. Robot

Carly and Grace had to say goodbye to Darlene and Dom this week as Mr. Robot winds down:

Roswell, New Mexico

Nothing makes me happier than new Jamie Clayton casting news:

Runaways

As a major Runaways fan, I honestly don’t even want to talk about this right now. Season 3 will also be the final season and, no, I am not taking questions at this time.

Here’s the trailer for season 3… how about we all watch this and just pretend like the show isn’t ending?

Steven Universe

Steven Universe will be back on December 7th (as Steven Universe Future)!

Supergirl

Brand new trailers were released this week for the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. The crossover will kick off with Supergirl on December 8th!

Nicole Maines spoke with Access about her groundbreaking role on Supergirl:

Wynonna Earp

Dominique Provost-Chalkley gave a lovely interview about her role in Season of Love and how she overcomes her fears:

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
