Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Ruby Rose and Rachel Skarsten acted like sisters, Brooklyn Nine-Nine got renewed, and the end of Orange is the New Black felt a lot closer.
Batwoman
The Batwoman cast is apparently already in love with each other and it’s making me even more excited for the show to (hopefully) drop this fall. I’m not going to include all the relevant Batwoman instagram stories here (there were so many) but do yourself a favor and at least follow Ruby Rose and Rachel Skarsten on Instagram to keep up to date on their developing twin relationship.
Oh… and I love Kate and Sophie already.
BIFL Series
I’m getting more and more excited about this new web series so I wanted to highlight it here (even though I am a little late on this cute Mandahla Rose video). Keep an eye out for when they start releasing full content! It looks like it’s going to be good!
The Bold Type
To say my heart skipped a beat when I saw Adena would be an understatement (it probably skipped 4 beats and I should get it checked out).
Broad City
In the interest of staying (somewhat) spoiler-free, let’s just say the fourth photo in this set is exciting for reasons.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Make sure to watch this outrageously cute video of the B99 cast to brighten your day. Nine-Nine!
Also, be sure to check out this piece written by Stephanie Beatriz about directing her first episode of the show!
Carmilla
Another week, another flurry of convention news. These three shining faces were announced as the first guests of Vancouver’s Love Fan Fest in September!
Natasha, Elise, and Kaitlyn Alexander will also be at LoveCon this weekend so make sure to keep an eye on that for new good content!
Glamorous
The CW, as always, is working to diversify its lineup even more with the addition of Glamorous, a show with a gender non-conforming lead. This week, they announced that Ben J. Pierce (an openly gay actor) will be playing the lead character!
Jane the Virgin
Listen, as I said last week, I know the chances of Sophia Bush playing queer on JtV are very slim but I was still excited to see that she might be in a scene with Petra!
Killing Eve
I’m still not over this photo shoot. Here’s a whole gif set in case you want to relive every moment of the behind the scenes video.
One Day at a Time
I love bloopers and, more importantly, I love bloopers of my favorite queer couples!
And, in case you still aren’t convinced on just how badly Netflix needs to renew ODAAT, check out this interview with Gloria Calderon Kellett about the show’s valuable representation!
Orange is the New Black
In case you needed a quick cry, check out this overview of how the OitnB cast reacted to the final days of filming:
Runaways
Oh boy, this was a surprise! Clexacon announced that it will have a full Runaways panel this year, complete with Deanoru, Xavin, and Gert (aka Ariela Barer, who is queer in real life). I am beyond excited about this!
Supergirl
Is there anything cuter in this world than Nicole Maines and Katie McGrath‘s friendship? I don’t think so.
This tweet from Nicole made me laugh this week and it felt worth including here:
Finally, very importantly, cue me selling all my belongings to go to Paris this summer:
Why Women Kill
It was recently brought to my attention that this new series will have some queer characters! In a recent casting announcement, Reid Scott’s character description included this overview:
He is a stay-at-home writer, married to Taylor, whom he finds alluring and exciting, constantly impressed by her fearlessness. He’s happy with their unconventional marriage, pleased that both have the liberty to sleep with other people as long as they don’t bring their playmates home. However, all that is about to change when Eli allows Taylor to let her lesbian lover crash with them for the weekend.
Very interesting. Read the full announcement below:
Wynonna Earp
There haven’t been any major updates about WE season 4 so the cast and fandom are still sitting pretty. Here’s a general update on why the show is currently in limbo:
In other news, DragonCon announced that Emily Andras will be attending this year’s convention!
And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
