Queer Beats – February 8, 2019

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Rachel Skarsten fulfilled our greatest villain dreams, Petramos reminded us why Jane the Virgin is worth the wait, and One Day at a Time returned!

First, I would like to point everyone’s attention toward Mika’s recent post about the TCAs. The TV Critics Association Winter Press Tour is always full of good TV goodies, so be sure to read Mika’s post to hear about all your favorite shows!

Warning: This post contains spoilers!

Batwoman

I literally choked on the water I was drinking while I read the following tweet:

I will keep things spoiler-free but Rachel is going to be playing Alice and, if you’ve read the Batwoman comics, she seems pretty perfect for the role!

Black Lightning

There were many moments where we were blessed this week, but this was the one that started it all. More cute Anissa/Grace pictures please!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

*casually tosses cute picture of Rosa looking at Gina’s golden butt onto this page*

Jane the Virgin

Scroll through these Yael pictures for some good Petramos treats:

And in case that didn’t quench your thirst:

One Day At A Time

ODAAT IS BACK! The full season dropped on Netflix last night so… what are you waiting for?!

And if you are a ODAAT fan living near Barcelona, you’re in luck! Isabella Gomez just got added to this year’s lineup!

Person of Interest

I get a lot of pleasure from adding unexpected shows into my news round-up every week. If you are a Shoot fan, you will be excited to hear that Amy Acker will be making her way to Armageddon Expo this year!

Riverdale

We finally got a queer-heavy episode this week which was quite heavenly. Choni was also featured on Riverdale’s instagram page this week although, honestly, I’m not sure why they talked about all the straight couples but skipped right over both queer couples on the show…

Supergirl

A new Supergirl trailer was released and it looks like we will be continuing to learn more about Dreamer‘s powers! Hooray!

Admittedly, my first thought upon seeing the new villain was “can she kiss Alex?”

In another favorite moment of the week: Nicole Maines confirmed what we all already knew about Chyler Leigh… THAT SHE’S PERFECT.

The Walking Dead

I stopped watching The Walking Dead before the killed the last queer character but I am always happy to hear about thriving couples on shows! Eleanor Matsuura spoke with Digital Spy about her fight to get better rep on the show:

If you happen to watch TWD and love this couple, tell me all about it (GayCrystalGems on Twitter)! They look very cute and I want to hear more!

Wynonna Earp

Wynonna Earp came in strong this week with EIGHT Canadian Screen Award nominations. You can see the full list below but Melanie Scrofano was nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series and I can’t wait to see her back on a red carpet (read: can’t wait for her to be inappropriate on a red carpet).

The awards aren’t until March 31st so, in the meantime, be sure to vote for Dominique Provost-Chalkey for Audience choice here!

One last note: Kaitlyn Alexander will be creating Youtube videos again so make sure to subscribe to their channel ASAP, if you haven’t already!

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.

About NikkiT

Nikki is an archivist by day, queer TV addict by night. Her first dive into fan content was when she ran a secret Xanga blog dedicated to pictures of Lorelai Gilmore in the 7th grade. She has never looked back.
