Queer Beats – September 18, 2020

Queer Beats with Nikki Header

Welcome back to Queer Beats, your weekly one-stop shop for queer television news! This week, Harley Quinn and The Chi were renewed (yay!) but, annoyingly, Stumptown was not.

Before we start, be sure to check out Mika’s posts for all things related to the DC FanDome! If you weren’t able to tune into the virtual convention, Mika has you covered!

Amar A Muerte

Bárbara and Macarena continue to treat Juliantina fans with fun new content:

Barbelle

This new series has the potential to be very interesting! And is being directed by one of the stars of Barbelle!

Batwoman

Filming for season two of Batwoman is officially underway and Javicia Leslie is ready to start her new starring role:

Also, for fans of the Batwoman comics, they cast Safiyah for the new season:

The Chi

The Chi was renewed by Showtime!

Chicago Fire

Adriyan Rae, who you may know from Vagrant Queen, was recently added to the Chicago Fire cast:

Dear White People

Jeremy Tardy, who portrayed Rashid on Dear White People, announced that he will not be returning to the show for the final season due to pay disparities. In his statement, he mentions that some of his colleagues initially stood with him to demand equal pay, although we do not have further information on whether or not these other cast members will continue to work on the show.

Grey’s Anatomy

At least these two shows will be coming back soon:

Harley Quinn

We finally have news on Harley Quinn: it’s renewed for a third season but will be moved over to HBO Max!

Legends of Tomorrow

New Legends cast member alert!

The L Word: Generation Q

Jennifer Beals went on The Pants Pod this week and it looks super cute:

Lucifer

I wouldn’t say this video is news, per se, but it does feel important to share:

Orphan Black

Again, I may be stretching the definition of queer news here, but in my very queer world, THIS IS DEFINITELY IMPORTANT NEWS:

Ratched

Cynthia Nixon will be playing the love interest on this long-awaited new series starring Sarah Paulson:

Riverdale

The Riverdale crew is back together to start filming the new season!

Also, this is a reminder that Vanessa Morgan is pregnant in real life and it will be interesting to see how they incorporate (or hide) that in the show.

Stumptown

This news is especially rude because it feels like the rule of “no takebacks” should be applied here. Stumptown was cancelled even though it had been previously renewed. Pour one out for another bisexual lead gone.

Supergirl

Supergirl released some deleted scenes last week, including this one with Dansen. I have some feelings around how the show managed to cut one of the only scenes where these two are actually seen touching, but I’m grateful we finally got to see it in the end:

And I know this is especially cruel for me to post after that Dansen scene and this video comes with a Sanvers-style trigger warning but… Floriana Lima recorded some fan videos this weekend that included some Sanvers memories:

Take My Wife

Brittani Nichols, who is on our site for her guest role on Take My Wife but is also responsible for tons of queer content as a writer, will be developing a new show with Issa Rae’s production company! I can’t wait to see the result!

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead announced tons of new content, both with the main show and with a spin-off:

And that’s it for Queer Beats this week! Always thorough, always professional, never random.
